Is that jim barrett of the city architect? why am i labouring the point?

If it can be proven that the decision was compromised or contrived in any way by mistakes or oversights, then justice has to prevail. 3w’s proposal looks like a winner in my eyes

Most of them are unaware that streets can be better. Few people i know take note of the stone finish on streets or standard of rubbish bins while away on holidays. Not to say you’re not right, just that its not really apathy if the whole situation is just under the radar (or over)

Inspired my ass. They designed the east village for god sake! self-inspiration? odd. whats the think on the watergold building at the end of the east village? its the yellow stone one with green glass and a funny roof line.

wow. never saw that silver thingy. uuugly. That look worked well on the siemens building, possibly because of its industrial and dockland location, and it proximity to the station, but its not too nice down by the river.

A whole flotilla of salt and pepper shakers lining the lee.

Planning was granted recently for the site opposite the opera house, at the end of the christy ring bridge, for a 5 and 6 story apartment block. Muck. Damn you Keating.

“as an outstanding initial concept for an architectural statement on this critically located site” -ddda

if that quote is accurate i think its enough to discredit this competition as no more than a farce. whatever about corruption and stupidity, i find that someone trying to tell me that felim dunnes proposal is anything approaching outstanding to be a massive insult.

you show the idiots what for paul. bravo

ugly as sin is a definite architectural criticism. if the word beautiful can be applied to contrasting material, textures, compositions as a whole, then ugly can be used to mean the opposite.

    ugly
    Function: adjective
    Definition: unattractive
Synonyms: animal, appalling, awful, bad-looking, beast, deformed, disfigured, dog, dogface, foul, frightful, grisly, gross, grotesque, grungy, haglike, hard-featured, hideous, homely, horrid, ill-favored, loathsome, misshapen, monstrous, pig, plain, plug, repelling, repugnant, repulsive, revolting, unbeautiful, uncomely, uninviting, unlovely, unprepossessing, unseemly, unsightly
    Concept: ugliness

my particualar favourites are uninviting and unappealling. please don’t try to give english lessons here alan, we can all be speak good.

this building is not as good as it could be or should be. do you honestly believe there was a decent investment of time, energy, and creative enthusiasm in the creation of this scheme. ignoring the office it came from, or its importance as an urban structure, do you feel it could be better? or is this the pinnacle of architectural expression in your mind?

i also like dogface and haglike.

my biggest issue with this building is that it is not site-specific. the renders highlight this further when it looks best when its pitch dark and all the street lights are broken. and in the daytime render it looks lost in a sea of grey blocks which represent nothing. i’d appeal to m o’l to give honest impressions of this buildings placement, and not try to make it appear isolated and pristine.

cork deserves better, with such good work being done when the mindset is right, i feel such an exposed and important sight it is wasteful to throw up any old slightly wonky fashionable tat

el architino, once again you astonish me with your amazing works. to be able to capture the power and majesty of a thought with a ball point. magnifico. your penmanship renders the renders of murray o’laoire wasteful and incoherent. the decisive cuts and projections truly embodythe magic of music

i dont think rubbishing other proposals is the point alan d.

i just think that a firm as big and experienced as m o’l should be able to do better. their scheme seems to lack cohesion, any sort of distinctive style, and smacks generally of a lack of effort. if you’d like to see my doodles you’re welcome to it, but for the money and exposure that murray o’laoire are getting for this project, they really should have done better.

does anyone know if it was the cork office that designed it? surely by walking outside their door and looking around they’d be forced o come up with something better than this
