ParticipantI think the Thames and Hudson series are brilliant value… you can get a good selection in most bookshops – this is 7.95 sterling

ParticipantWent up today… very nice gallery and lots of interesting panels…. funny though that some panels lack an impact in the space while they are in reality very condensed and detailed when you look closely.
I wonder if it’s time to ask for submissions on CDR? It would allow for more information and dynamic 3d models etc.roskav
ParticipantTa for all that! By the way… it’s on the fifth floor and I’m sure you don’t have to pay… if you make it right to the top then maybe a guinness will suffice!

ParticipantDOH …went up this evening expecting to slug a glass of wine but door was locked and tumbleweed rolled past… caught a glimpse through the crack in the door … looked interesting.

ParticipantInteresting massing… but i wonder if the precast panels were also imported … does anyone know anything about the buildings on Kevin st and Herbert st with the fussy precast sections… it looks like they were bought up as job lots after another project was pulled..

ParticipantCould it be KMD? It’s quite like a building they did on Denzille lane and around the same age…

ParticipantWow you’re genuinely inquisitive….
Coming from Bray …cornelscourt from the old cabinteely road.. when you went to santa and got your new toy gun conficated because “that was the thing that shot john lennon”…… Ireland’s first dual Carriageway Foxrock… now sadly expanded(ired) ….Blakes…. those bits of chicken and getting used to the idea of eating out in the 1980’s… on and on until the flyover at UCD… still a major landmark as it’s the only stretch where people keep to 40mph. The RTE mast was the main thing … along with that really dodgy junction .. there always seemed to be glass over the road at that point. One of the other things was at night … entering into a tunnel of orange sodium lights… a true entry to a city.roskav
Participantcheck out the “in-between house” dominic stevens…. bump bump bump

ParticipantBaldoyle Public Library – North Dublin City… on coast– Cabra Sports Centre – North Dublin City also… .. just two suggestions… you might want to have a look at “new irish architecture” results of the annual AAI competition published yearly by gandon editions and available in most of the bookshops. You might find one or two of the projects here interesting too! http://www.roskavanagh.com

ParticipantSend the graffiti artists to night classes in colour theory – monochrome graffiti is depressing….

ParticipantIn my humble opinion as a former architect you’d want to weigh up the implications of breaking nearly every guidline in the building regs of stair construction with that spiral… is that going to be your main stairs?

ParticipantIf the Abbey moves to O’Connell St… the design will also suffer from another form of nostalgia… the facade of the Carlton. It’s a millstone around the neck of any new proposal for the site.

ParticipantHi Gar … ta for the comments and I take your points… I’ll show them to the designer… but I still wonder if it’s possible to have a varying set of images as an identity…

ParticipantWhat a great idea…. it could be the thing that finally makes up for the custom house fire…. imagine all the stacks of state papers/pictures finally coming out of cold storage and being scanned on to cdr – whatever. The scanner in the slammer!
PS Firewire rocks

ParticipantHiya Paul…. In my Defence!
That day includes scanning… and there’s a lot of stuff to catch up on. I don’t do the work so it doesn’t affect my work time. I really wanted to get a good searchable archive up – whether it will pay off is questionable… but it represents mainly my commercial front so it’s excellent for getting new work and referring prospective clients to.

ParticipantI got two people to do the site… it took about 3 weeks to get going and then a day a week since august uploading images… I’m trying to get an overview of all the architecture and performance – visual art that I’ve engaged with over the last six years…. phew! I also try to put a link to each image if my client has a website. It’s good for looking back on your work as it shows up lots of potential for improvement!

ParticipantThanks Gar… that’s been said by other people too… I had wanted the pictures to be the only colour or strong graphic on the site. One of the reasons is that I can’t think of a logo that would work. The text in the name should do the job.
