ParticipantLeft out Drogheda as well, much to may peoples annoyance in the NE, particularly as they have a bigger population than Dundalk

ParticipantAppropriate use of the word “tossing” methinks

ParticipantThis is the newer of the Hammond Lane sites (ie the one down by the ESB in Ringsend) rather than the older one that was by Grand Canal Basin which is the Dunlow Ewart owned site (which has the Yacht sail shaped building planned – if the internal wranglings within the company are sorted out).
Zoe developments (or whichever name they are going under at the moment) owns the Poolbeg site having bought it from AIB a few years ago and proposed this development in the first place – I remember that this development was one of the sites mentioned for the new PriceWaterhouseCoopers building (probably need a big building to fit the sign on).

ParticipantAnd so we end up with the Irish solution to an Irish problem – we incorporate the old building into the new one and both look out of context -see National Gallery extn with ballroom for example.
I have no qualms with saving heritage that’s worth saving but if it is just an ordinary house then it is probably not woth saving. In years to come if I become famous for something, I wouldn’t like my 3 bed semi preserved for the nation!
It’s reminiscent of the dispute about one of the houses that James Joyce lived in from a few years ago – Joyce lived in about 30 different houses around Dublin over the space of a few years – are they all equally important?

ParticipantTry full trains – they recently introduced less seating in the new carriages on the Drogheda/Dundalk line – so you now end up standing for over an hour on they way to work – puts you in a fantastic mood!

ParticipantFYI fact fans – appearently the reason that they did away with the centre door of the buses was due to union grumblings about one driver having to deal with two doors, so a compromise was reached in terms of having one less door for the poor dears to deal with.
This really is a joke of a country isn’t it – just came back from Croatia where the solitary driver has three doors to deal with – and they have no problems with that – why are we so different over here?

ParticipantThomas Burgh should sue from beyond the grave!

ParticipantFrom looking at the image above it seems to be that this building will be on the site proposed for the conference centre. Can we take it that the NCC has been shelved?

ParticipantSorry did I say Windsor park – I meant Ravenhill the home of Ulster rugby, not that scary place
Rory W
ParticipantI’d be delighted to see Internationals played in Windsor Park and Thomond park whist Lansdowne is redeveloped as something akin to the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff. Don’t know what the soccer boys would do though? Dalyer anyone?

ParticipantAccording to a friend who used to work in the engineering department of irish Rail, the loop line won’t be replaced, the engineers love it too much

ParticipantMake a fantastic set of loft sylye apartments methinks

ParticipantIf memory serves (must consult the Destruction of Dublin on this one) the roof superstructure was left exposed because they had already built up 30 ft above the height they had permisssion for – so the overall effect was that the building was less high than it actually was.
The non clad roof was a strange structure it looked like handles on a box that someone might pick up some day

ParticipantI think the centralised concept was a bad idea – we would still have the situation that soccer (where the ball need to flow freely) is being played on a rugby (ploughed up) pitch (a don’t say FA Cup at Millenium Stadium – it takes place well after the end of the rugby season) what we need is a redeveloped Lansdowne and an eircom park. Give each entity an stadium that it can be proud of. Only at Ireland V England could a rugby international fill an 80,000 capacity stadium (and a lot of them would be the old enemy brigade) imagine Ireland V Italy – the place would look deserted.
eicom park only failed because of government interference – its timing was good, at height of Celtic Tiger (RIP) and it had the right sort of capacity for the Irish Soccer Team. It was also a home the FAI and Irish soccer fans could have been proud of.
As with everything in this country, everything gets kicked around by “Uncle Tom Cobbly and all” just waiting for inflation to kick in and nothing gets built.
2 suitably sized stadia (redeveloped lansdowne and eircom park) would probably be better for applications to host events of this nature – surely these could be fast tracked.
Back to the drawing board folks!

ParticipantYeah noticed the RCSI Maroon sign plocked very badly over the old carved in ABN Amro sign on the granite (so bad you can still see the A and part of the B) Best viewed from outside of Shanahans restraurant ugh!
Rich surgeons!! Whatever next

ParticipantThe irony being that Zoe built Charlotte Quay… amazing what people can do if they put a bit of thought into it

ParticipantAccording to The Irish Times Breaking News “He (Seamus “don’t care who runs it” Brennan) is also said to be worried over the new signposts, which do not follow State regulations. Talks between the council and the Department of Transport are due this week.”
Wonderful!
No doubt a test case will be taken next!

ParticipantYou could have the metro lines meeting at central and then connecting with mainline and dart at connolly & tara, but make central a metro hub (convenient to Luas if it ever makes it onto O’Connell Street)

ParticipantI think they are going to refurb the flats there as well
