Yeah and I wanted to rant about the City council’s daft decision on the O’Connel Street trees

Quote from yesterday’s Sunday Tribune – “The metro project for Dublin has been consigned to the bin” – can anyone confirm or deny this

Sent this to the Green party, can I suggest that like minded individuals do the same:

As someone who has voted for John Gormley in the last 2 general elections, I am writing to inform you that after the chaining to trees stunt of yesterday I shall not be voting green again. It was a tacky stunt which is a hinderance to the badly-needed renewal of O’Connell Street. The trees do not add anything of merit to the street architecturally and the replacement trees should be more suitable to the location rather than the grnarled London Plane trees that are currently there. May I suggest that the Green Party support the renewal and part pedestrianising of “Main Street Ireland” which will add more to the quality of life for Dubliners rather than blocking it with a tacky stunt.

I thought you had caught one of the few moments of Butt Bridge without a truck going through the side 😉

Pathetic – why don’t they complain about sewage sludge and chain themselves to crap in Dublin Bay. Can’t believe I gave John Gormley my second preference.

The City Council recently cut down the trees around 3 sides of St Stephens green and the smaller replacement trees along with the new paving looks superb. The Green Party are twats (in my opinion) I’m going down there at lunchtime and telling them that – if they are still there.

They are only part of the street furniture for fucks sake

What a dull suggestion – “its good because it uses the existing counter/tellers” – a bar could use the existing counter/ tellers are any service provider.

As mentioned above there are things that would be more attractive on O’Connell Street than a bookies/sexshop/poundshop/hostel why not try to think world-class for the street and not just main street of anytown in Ireland

In Stockholm they are closing down and demolishing city centre multistorey car parks, but then again thats in a civilised country

Surely a bookies is not the sort of premises that the City Council wants to promote on the main street of Ireland – the silence from them is defining. Temple Bar properties sucessfully block McDonalds from opening a fast food shop in Temple Bar (where Luigi Malones is now) – so surely the City Council/O’Connell Street scheme could block this as not being in keeping with the redevelopment

I think its Ardoyne House which overlooks Herbert Park – but isn’t the one at the old Johnson Mooney & O’Brien site (above). Its a legacy of the 60’s and can best be viewed at the junction of Marlborough Road and Waterloo Road – it shows that high rise living can work in Ireland as apartments here fetch hefty sums

Ah yes privatisation – look at Eircom (which you already owned) being sold to you at an inflated price, and then being taken off you at a loss and sold to some of the richest people in the country with the majority of small shareholders absolutely over a barrell. And we put up with this!!!

Coming soon – new apartment complex built by some dodgy developer in the Phoenix Park – oh did you not know we sold this (Govt attitude)

Because there is the attitude of “I don’t give a shite” in Ireland that nobody cares what the place looks like. We are too tolerant as a people saying “oh they mustn’t have enough to do” in places like this thats why they have graffiti around the place.

We have the problem that we tolerate things like people dropping rubbish everwhere, pissing and puking all over our streets – then where there is a case brought the judge wants evidence of the litter dropped??? What are they supposed to do about urine – bring a bottle of it to the court (literally taking the piss).

Sorry about the rant but I despair about the attitude of people in this country. This is why we have rampant inflation in the place – publicans & shopkeepers put up prices – people moan to each other, but never actually complain en masse, in France, Greece etc people do complain and protest about price hikes – and it works. People are just selfish – I think the perfect name for a political party would be “Me Fein” because that’s all people are interested in.

There is no civic pride in this town (as can be seen by the amount of Chewing Gum everwhere) and anybody who tries something is sneered at. Anyone who is caught littering/soiling the streets should be made to take a week off work and go on litter picking up duty, just like in primary school – that would teach people a lesson.

    It must be Monday.

In leather soled shoes its a bloody nightmare – I nearly killed myself about 2 weeks ago on them. Not the sort of “night on the tiles” that I like.

Surely there is a non stick coating that could be applied to them.

In a wonderful bit of planning the tiles in the newer section (where the roof doesnt leak) is non slip, but in the section where it does leak are slippy. What genius comes up with these things

Why don’t they admit they haven’t got a bloody clue about anything in this country. Its the usual case of lets site something in a marginal consituancy and hope they don’t vote for someone else next time!

Dundalk gets the lions share of investment in the NE whereas Drogheda has the lack of facilities, by promoting this plan they are just further draining potential investment from Drogheda and aiming it at Dundalk.

It don’t make no sense to me
