ParticipantToo right it is – architecture looks nice (even if they did lop the top floors off the wooden building) but the area is dying on its arse – not enough of a draw to that end of TB unless you know it’s there, even then unless you want an expensive kitchen there isn’t much of huge appeal down there

ParticipantIt looks like a B&Q Warehouse with bits bolted to the side, it’s too suburban and dated for this site I agree with Graham about the main problem of a blank facade not being addressed here – obviously they dont like windows
Rory W
ParticipantNah its like the old one only bigger – boo to this it already looks dated

ParticipantThanks for the info on the Greenore Railway Paul – it all makes sense now

ParticipantWell they’ve cleaned up the Buildings on Westland Row a bit over the past few months – only problem seems to be the pavements around Westland Row and Lincoln Place are permanently covered in Puke. Can they stop beer promos in the Pav or something?
Rory W
ParticipantAh the legendary Inner Tangent route, Designed to run around from Cuffe Street on Stephen’s Green to Parnell street Via Patricks street, North King Street etc etc buggering up everything along the way, don’t know what they were planning for Dame Street, usually they knocked buildings just to widen the street by four feet or something similar

ParticipantSpeaking of Dundalk station, does anyone know if there was a spur from Dundalk down the Cooley penninsular as I was up that direction and saw what seems to have been evidence of a rail line which is very mutch disused – cant find any info on the web – any ideas anyone?

ParticipantThe Sth Great Georges Street Buildings (Castle House and Wicklow House I assume) are literally the wrong buildings in the wrong location – they were designed for a site in Leeds and ended up being used over here by the developer – they will be getting a makeover soon I believe to turn the emphasis to verticle rather than horizontal and some other tricks, brick rather than concrete facades etc so watch this space…

ParticipantSpeaking of Yuck – has anyone seen the replacement for Pelican House on Mespil Road – Bland Bland Bland. Looks like anything you’d find in Sandyford Ind. Est. or Citywest

ParticipantAll the fans who go to Lansdowne – both domestic and international – love the Lansdowne Stroll, from the city centre to the stadium via a host of pubs – don’t move for god’s sake
Rory W
ParticipantDo they have planning permission?

ParticipantLook forward to the redevelopment of this street which is a bit dull and soul less at present, they should also make the Green Centre open up the Shopfronts onto Sth King Street, or alternatively open something in front of the facades e.g. cafe’s stalls etc with those gas heaters and awnings could be interesting.
Oh and Eircom has a vast amount of surplus land/properties, it certainly needed to be stripped out.

ParticipantPerhaps another protest would convince the IRFU to stay at Lansdowne Road. The Blazers who are running it are so out of touch with the fanbase that they thought closing down Connaught was a good idea, when will they realise nobody wants to go to an industrial park off the M50???

ParticipantWell d_d_dallas, I’m from well inside the pale, and I’m not going to start with the true blue dub stuff, but I think O’Connell Bridge house is fine, its just a matter of taste, either you like it or hate it. I just happen to like it
Rory W
ParticipantIt needs a good Brand Manager – I’ll do it!!

ParticipantI still like it, there are far worse buildings that are far more intrusive.
I also like the fact that there is no car spaces with it (although it was a breach of the planning guidelines of the time – and I know the real reason for this), less car spaces=less cars (probably why there was so much difficulty filling the building). Yes the Q-Bar is toss and the loss of the Carlile Building was regretable but we can’t live in a museum.
Hurray for O’Connell Bridge House, boo to half baked nonsense like the Ballast Office reproduction. O’CBH is as much a part of Dublin as the ha’penny bridge, let it be.

ParticipantSo dc3 abandon the heritage of the National Theatre – explain to me why this is a good idea? I assume once again this is a piss-take
Why are the usual (foster, leibeskind, Gerhy et al) trotted out as lets have one of their signiture buildings? Could we have something new, not just something from the cv of the global architectural royalty?
Rory W
ParticipantCan you send it on to me – you know the email address, it being part of registration

ParticipantThanks Paul – “de fooking metro” is now my new desktop wallpaper
