ParticipantThe problem is a combination of poor spatial strategy, selfish drivers and bad public transport infrastructure

Ilac any decent shops
Ilac any design elements created post 1978
Ilac any of the features promised
Ilac southside shoppers
Ilac a lot of things…Rory W
ParticipantIs it getting to the stage over here that applicants request for something 1/3 taller than what they need as they know a few storeys are going to get lopped off?
Rory W
ParticipantActually a similar thing is happening up in Drogheda, they are building a ‘shock-horror’ seven storey building on the riverside (with a boardwalk – this is why I’m not saying quay). And the local Labour councellor is giving out yards about it (although the building site is already up to 4 storey height at this stage – which is the height of the buildings in the vicinity). Politicians eh – they know when to get their spoke in (i.e. half completion stage) – usual bollocks mini-ballymun etc etc ad infinitum
Since when is seven storey tall anyway. We dont all live in cotteges you know

ParticipantSo am I right in saying that everybody in the country has a problem in going up an escalator and getting a connecting luas to Connolly/ Heuston?
Rory W
ParticipantA direct link to the docklands isn’t necessary – there isn’t a direct link from Heathrow to Canary wharf but commerce still survives. Use the O’Connell street stop to connect with Luas as mentioned by kefu and redeoin to go east or west of O’Connell Street.
Jesus you’d sware people in this country wanted a direct line from their living room to the departure lounge!
Rory W
ParticipantI do think it should link at liffey junction with the interconnector and sligo line. My point was aimed at those who think just because it doesn’t run directly into Connolly/Tara/Pearse and that you wont step off the Dart and step directly onto the metro without having to walk for a while.
At least it will be an underground link that people will be able to walk

ParticipantHow the sweet holy f*** can you have a lighting up ceremony at 11:30am on a July morning???
Somebody buy these guys a watch/sundial

ParticipantIf there is a travellator connection between Tara street station and the D’Olier street Station then it is connected to the network. An underground link there is less than 400 yards so get walking.
Why do we need a Station at O’Connell Street – because it is the central street of the city, if we are truly going to revitalise it then it should be treated as the centre not something to be ashamed of.
Carlton Centre for New station I say

ParticipantThey really are a great idea – they should install them in Temple Bar (along with a pavement that pukes back at you!)
Rory W
ParticipantAh its out between Donnybrook and Booterstown and there is a contoversial major scheme with shedloads of apartments planned that are in 6-8 storey blocks. Just curious thats all
Rory W
ParticipantAh but what of the way the Ardilaun centre staggers drunkenly down Cuffe Street – surely a mistake

ParticipantSince when did we abdicate all responsibility of parenting to an architect? As a child I used to go the Grand Canal locks around by me – if I fell in (25 ft drop) into an empty lock when titting about and died it would have been my own fault, and not the fault of the opw. What is wrong with this country that everything has to be pc and self-effacing. Christ since we have got money in this country we have become a right shower of right-on twats.
If I crashed my car – would I demand that the design of the car was changed – no. We need to grow up and take responsibility for ourselves and our children’s actions.

ParticipantWhy not send the bill for the delay to the appropriate jobsworth and then see how quickly he changes his mind.
I’m all for preservation, but also would like to live in a country that moves. So preserve as much of the site as possible, if you loose some of it – thats life. Protestors who want to stop the roads etc (i.e no roads whatsoever) should also be sent the bill.
I’m delighted that the guy from the Madrid Metro lambasted the way things operate in this country – it really is a petty corrupt place
Rory W
ParticipantTo do all of the underground schemes above would be a logistical nightmare – you are talking about closing the line from Lansdowne Road to beyond Clontarf road for months. All nice aspirations but it aint going to happen I’m afraid. As Platform 11 says why not make better use of Platform 1 at Connolly – I know the last train to Drogheda goes from there on a Sunday night, so why not use it during the week for a shuttle to Heuston?
Better get that signalling sorted out first I suppose

ParticipantInteresting fact #57 – there were plans afoot to put the Wellington Monument in Merrion Square, would have given the place a Trafalgar Square type feel to the place. Scary thought though
