On the markets area plan – the AIB is set to come down !! To allow a pedestrian flow into the area without a percieved border

I see from today’s paper that it’s going to be made permanent, with a new pedestrian plaza outside the college of surgeons

Devin – my point was that ABP was set up specifically to act as the final arbitrator, rather than the Minister for the Environment.

The fact that there is no central plan for development is another matter all together, hence the farce that is Leinster

Nah Devin – not to the same degree as the past when the Minister for the Environment would regularly over-ride decisions that had been made by the local planning office and local council (following representations by developers!!!) and give permissions based on his own judgement.

    Hence ABP was set up

Still think the guy’s a twat

(PS what did they find was so bad with your scheme alan?)

    In a word – Twat

Why was ABP formed – because of arsehole politicians (Jimmy Tully) interfering in the planning process and making decisions that did no-one favours in the long run. Who tried to abolish ABP the last time? Yes it’s everyone’s favorie tax cheat and crook Ray Burke.

In a phrase – Fuck off Marc

One of the major reasons that this country is improving is that we are no longer under the cosh of crooked politicians (Tax cheat and Tribunal obstructor Ray Burke we’re looking at you) and officials (Hello Mr Redmond) being essentially bribed by developers to have their way with things. Actual planners (i.e.) not just road engineers are being listened to for a change

We are less and less under the shadow of these people (but not quite out of the darkness just yet) and this is the tangible signs of the improvement.

Still think there should be a line from Glasnevin Junction to the airport via Ballymun and then on to Balbriggan via Swords (a huge population unserved by rail transport), rather than the already congested northern suburban line spur.

and the reason for “Drugs & Whores” ?

Beside’s that it’s the oldest trade in the world (whoring not drugs but the usually follow each other) they’ve pretty much always been in benburb street (you can blame the brits for building the biggest army barracks in Dublin there if you’re that way inclined) but they have always traded from around that area.

    B’god ’tis almost a Dublin tradition…

That’s the first time I’ve seen Indymedia’s site. It’s quite possibly the most “right on” site I’ve ever seen – LOL at the hey kids lets turn the old butchers shop into a vegetarian drop in centre!!!

Reasons for Benburb street’s dereliction problem – Drugs & Whores hopefully the Luas line’s opening will allow this area to be reborn. Most problem areas go through the dereliction/blocking up process before coming out the other side. Give it time….

I love the indo’s tone of indignation – how dare it go up in price although the spec has totally changed. When building a landmark such as this we must persue it. Does anyone know how much the Customs house would cost to build today? Who knows, but the city would surely be worse off without it.
