No it was Mary O’Rouke giving into the likes of the AA rather than Garrett’s Measuring tape & numbers thing (which he denies doing anyway)

Hey platform 11 folks! Instead of my direct train from Drogheda to Sidney Parade (it runs on to Bray) I change at Pearse? is that the plan or will through trains still happen?

The 80s building I referred to is on Dame Street (Snap Printing) ok so its a refurb of the 1960s office block that stood there before (and became Dublin’s first derelict office block in the late 70s early 80s). My point was none of the remaining victorians on Dame Street would have to be touched.

The Drury Street/Exchequer street building I am think of is Central Hotel chambers accessed from Dame Court (the bit with the horrible mirrored glass bit on the ground floor). Its the one next door to Markeys shop – if memory serves.

I know it ain’t going to happen but just a suggestion.

Phil – read the post. Im saying knock the buildings between Exchange street and Dame Street i.e. Eircom & Snap printing thus creating a new street as such

What about Sth King Street – Drury Street and Demolish eircom building at end of Drury Street and run Luas through to Dame Street to emerge where Snap Printing is (so we ain’t knocking anything older than late 80’s here). Makes for a new vista facing onto Central bank plaza.

Opens up Drury Street to luas trade, allows Buses etc to deal with the Grafton/Nassau street issue, creates new street (retail opportunities) as well as new view of Central Bank as well as finding use for Sth King Street!!

    What do you think?

As for this…well I think it says it all when we have moved away from a cup of coffee being a civilised daily pleasure to a plastic cup of scalding hot water with a safety warning and ample opportunity for a lawsuit, to go!

That’ McDonalds not McCafe – they use proper mugs don’tyaknow

Maybe it’s because the CGI looked cack

I like it lots now – was worried about the facade being bald but it works and works well. Now if Arnotts could just sort out their main facade and do away with the prefab look…

If Bewleys had charged more (attracts a cache), had waiter service and better food/ambience we could have had something akin to a continental style coffee house.

Cafe Bar Deli for Grafton Street!!!

    Why Bewleys closed
    1) premises too big
    2) worst coffee in Dublin
    3) overpriced ‘canteen style food’
    4) revamp of late 90’s killed original atmosphere
    5) management more interested in the brand for teas and coffees in the US than running cafe, let alone the hotel franchises
    6) poor value for money
    7) dreadful service
    8) change in coffee drinking habits
    9) no longer a draw due to all of the above

According to today’s (27/10) Times Commercial Property “Work on the new Macken Street bridge, which will link the south and north quays, is to begin early in the new year”. Anyone know if this is happening?

    From RTÉ.ie

Minister confirms Abbey will move site
The Minister for the Arts, John O’Donoghue, has told the Dáil that the proposed new Abbey Theatre will not be built on its current site.

The Minister also confirmed that the Abbey would not be moving to the Carlton Cinema site on O’Connell Street.

He confirmed to Fine Gael’s Jimmy Deenihan that the OPW had been asked to investigate alternative sites that can not be identified at present.

O’Donoghue also said that he hoped to be in a position to announce the new site before the end of the current year.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Abbey Theatre, Eithne Healy, today welcomed the Arts Council’s confirmation that it has engaged Anne Bonnar as lead consultant for the Council’s review of the Abbey.

“We are looking forward to giving Anne Bonnar every assistance with her review”, Healy said.

“With this week’s publication of the Abbey’s Working Group Report and the start today of the Arts Council review, I feel there is now a real momentum on all sides to address the difficulties facing the Theatre and place it on a firm foundation for the future.”

    taste-limited?

Crap from the Jury’s Inn school – the current building is shite and should be knocked (special hatred for the lift projection from the roof) but this is the sort of rubbish you would find in Sheffield or some other 3rd division city in the UK. Can’t believe it got permission.

Risable is about the only word that sums this up.

The streets of Dublin were made for traffic, as any in other town, but just let’s not do what they have done in Holland where most town centers are pedestrianised, and it just doesn’t work or feel right, it’s like walking around a theme park.

Yeah – wouldn’t it be awful not having to wait 180 seconds for the 15 second break you get to cross at College Green. Imagine how false it would be without having a HGV belching fumes into your face and wouldn’t it be simply awful having reduced pollution and dodging in and out of cars who stray onto pedestrian crossings when the lights are against them. And as for not getting nearly mowed down by cars that break red lights. Jesus what a hell on earth Dublin would become.
