ParticipantA few years ago there were plans to build a 9 ish storey building near Kilmainham Jail. What happened that? Are they currently builing this on the old factory site?
Pepsi
ParticipantI know that last article says that it will be 26 storeys but I heard it is actually 29.
Pepsi
ParticipantI really like Obel and I am glad to see it going ahead for real.

ParticipantI liked that proposal for Tara Street Station. It would have went well with One Georges Quay Plaza. It’s a pitty they didn’t build it. Back in early 2003 I asked a member of staff in the station about it and according to him it should have started by now.

ParticipantI was told today that the 29 storey Obel Tower in Belfast City is currently under construction. Is this true? I know it’s not Dublin but I don’t want to create a whole new Belfast thread just to ask one question.

What would I give for a time machine to pop forward 10 years and take a photo of the docks. Lansdowne will be visible in the distance, half built.
I’d like to be able to go forward 200 years to see what Dublin will be like then.
Pepsi
ParticipantI like that too.

ParticipantAccording to the DDDA construction will start on the U2 Tower in 2007.
Pepsi
ParticipantThe Krann Building will be a laboratory of some kind from what I’ve been told. As for the U2 Tower, that will be 100m high.

Well you learn something new every day. You prompted me to look up my dictionary (Collins) and the definition of “Building” (in this sense) is “something built with a roof and walls, such as a house or factory”. The Moneypoint towers have walls but no roof, so therefore are not “buildings”. I’d always thought a building was something “built”, so that would include towers like Moneypoint. Thanks Pepsi.
No problem.

ParticipantThose towers are not buildings. The question asked about the tallest building.

What height is the tallest building on the island of Ireland? Is the Europa in Belfast not pretty tall? (memories of IRA bombings in the bleak 80’s popping into my head now)
Windsor House, Belfast is the tallest building on the island of Ireland.

Not many. Santy Cross in Ballymun is nearly finished, as are the stumpy Belgard Square and Smithfield Market. This tower near Fatima Mansions is topped out and I believe the Vantage building in Leopardstown is about to commence construction.
In relation to Vantage, is the tower block part included in what you are saying or will they be starting on the low rise part only?

ParticipantI like the idea of a cable car but I don’t like the planned route. It would look terrible and should stay away from the historical areas. I would be in favour of it if it were confined to the docklands.
Pepsi
ParticipantThank you. 🙂
Pepsi
ParticipantI was near Royal Canal Park the other day. I think they have started to construct the tower block. Can anyone confirm?
Pepsi
ParticipantDoes anybody have a website address for Heuston Gate? I would be very interested in living in such a tower.
Pepsi
ParticipantIt seems to me like Ballymun was never maintained the way it should have been. All I can remember is them doing a bit of work on one smaller block a few years ago. I am glad to see them going.
