That is a great idea I think. That figure of 8 design makes a lot of sense in terms of knitting the wider city centre together.
Having that in place with the metro to the airport as well as the Port tunnel would give Dublin a first rate transport system.

I am sorry Graham – but that is the worst idea I have heard in a long time. You might as well have said “Bring back the Anna Liffey fountain” – It would be a rubbish collector.

One of the great occasions on the Dublin calendar – when the Scots come over for the Six Nations clash.

Yes – Very true. But at this stage you almost expect this sort of thing!
I believe it will be opening in Sept 2006 – no a bad timescale really.

    .

The passenger numbers using the existing nightlink services wouldn’t suggest that late night LUAS services would be commercially viable.

DIASPORA – are you mad? The late night bus service must be one of the most successful transport initiatives introduced in Dublin. Anytime I have used them (which has been a lot) they have been extremely busy. There is massive demand for late night transport – just look at the queues for taxis

Nobody is suggesting that the Joy is to be restored. It certainly is not worth resoring anyway. And even if it was restored, what purpose would it have?
DCC should ensure that it is repaced by a high quality high-density residential scheme.

Can anyone tell me for definite will this new national stadium at Lansdowne Road have a retractable roof. According to the Irish Times it will, but I dont believe them – looking at the image of the stadium it does look like it.
Personally I think it should have one as then the stadium could be used everyweek for both indoor and outdoor events.

Oh I love the Screen and Savoy the way they are. They have great character (is that just an age thing?) Anyway they are some of the things I miss about Dublin since I moved here to London. I know the outsides could do with a touch up on both, but I think if they go at the inside we will end up with another boring UGC style complex.

    WOW – funny stuff alright.
    ‘City of the sacred Heart’??????

‘The city will be paid for by gas found off the Mayo coast’?????
Weird and bizarre but above all scary!!!!!

The cow on Westmoreland Street had its wings pulled off by some idiot.

No it is 120metres high and and that was what was originally planned. It was suggested that it should be lower but that was rejected.

But not only that, also build the proposed pedestrian bridge from Marlborough Street to Hawkins street as well as rebuild the loop line bridge.
Then we would have a very impressive collection of bridges in Dublin.

I love that programme – particularly the one about the house on the Beacons. Tastefully restored, what a location and what a challenge.

Well at least it is now sorted.
We can laugh now I guess.

By the way – how did you find out about it Paul?

This sort of thing probably goes on all the time.

I disagree Graham – modern arcitecture should be capable of producing highquality appropriate buildings which compliment their surroundings and which stand the test of time.
If we look back rather than forward then we will get no where. We leave no legacy of our time!
The problem is that many buildings in Dublin were built without the input of any architect or very poor architects.

So if Harland and Wolf finished the construction work on time and within budget, who the hell is getting the extra millions?

Every year we have this discussion about Litter after the parade. I dont understand why the hell more bins are not put in place for just that one day.
There must be a good reason for not doing so, I am assuming I am missing something here.

Well at least something came out of the whole Sports Campus Ireland thing. An aweful pity the celtic tiger didnt last another 5-10 years, we might have seen more come of it.
