KeymasterReally? All the early canon of work is disappearing. First the Ritz and now this. Tullamore hospital has had some excretion added to one wing. Busaras is looking shite.

KeymasterI don’t think the entire reduction was carried out… but it resulted in the very weird roofline that existed until the late 1980s / early 1990s with the roof structure being outside the roof surface.. this was an attempt to reduce the height…. then a new roof was placed over the structure after a damp problem….

KeymasterIts going to get changed when the new block at the museum is built. There will be a coach park on the old Civil Defence property at the end, and a landscaped entrance from the Croppy Acre into the museum…. or so i seem to remember reading….

KeymasterYes, the AAI are looking into a similar event for next year in Ireland covering all eras of architecture.
Also made it into St Audoen’s Church of Ireland (High Street) and St Marys Abbey Chapter House (off Capel Street) today. Both were interesting as I’ve been walking past both for years and never made it into either.
St Audoen’s was interesting because of the ruinous nature of a good part of it. Interesting to see ruins survive in a cityscape.

KeymasterIn Robert Ballagh’s book of photographs of Dublin, he has some lovely B&W shots of the park in the early morning with mist… before the park was restored of course, so it has travellers horses in the pictures….

KeymasterThe war memorial is very open ok, but its the most architectural of any of the parks imo.

KeymasterParty on in the summerhouse
The Irish TimesSeen from the river, the Goulding Summerhouse appears to float high above the banks of the Dargle River. This gem of modernist simplicity was built in 1972 by Sir Basil Goulding in the lush gardens of his Enniskerry home and after years of neglect it has been renovated by its current owner, property developer John Ronan. Designed by architect Ronnie Tallon, it is a single-storey rectangular box made of glass, steel and cedar.

KeymasterDid you ever have any luck?

KeymasterNo 15 has the builders in at the moment. A new roof is going on, the galvanised temp onw has been removed and there was a delivery of steel girders during the last few weeks. Also sounds of building work from within.
Just from living beside them, some of the houses are in a dreadful state. Ian Lumley of An Taisce, his looks desperate from outside, must be rotting inside.
