KeymasterNew look Liffeyside
A major new Liffeyside development is on the cards for Dublin 1 – complete with a new theatre/bar at basement level.
Distribution and Exhibition Transport Ltd is seeking planning permission for the new mixed use building on five levels at 4-8 Eden Quay/Harbour Court, Dublin 1.
Apart from the basement theatre, the scheme will includes a variety of bars, restaurants, bistros, lounges and dancing area with offices overhead.
Eight 1 and 2 bedroom apartments are also included in the blueprint, together with an eight space stacked garage.
The site presently operates as Murphy’s Laughter Lounge and is fondly remembered by the older generation as the site of the Corinthian Cinema.

KeymasterI still believe that there is n opportunity for the irish boardsheets to produce a decent once a week architecture/urbasism column/page. With the exception of Shane’s once a fortnight piece in The Sunday Times, we’re very poorly served by the print media.
It doesn’t matter how much stuff is printed in the Irish Architect or Plan magazines, the general public never see an issue.

KeymasterYou’re right Greg in one regard, Irish towns and cities tend to long universally grim in the rain. Even the great buildings of Ireland with their stone facades look very foreboding in the rain. Sitting here this morning overlooking the Kings Inns and its so depressing looking in the rain. Its something to do with how the stonework goes almost black when wet. The brick squares of the georgian city are less depressing in the rain. There’s something about more modern buildings that they seem less gloomy on a wet day….

KeymasterMust get up Liberty Hall again, my photos from the top were taken in 1995 so the city looks a little different.

KeymasterBOYLE, LIAM, B.Arch (1923-1991).
Listed as an assistant architect on the Busáras project. Liam Boyle left Scott’s office to work in the Dublin Corporation Housing department. He was working there in 1960 when he won with Seamas Delaney, the competition to design an office block for the Irish Sugar Company between Earlsfort Terrace and Leeson Street. On the strength of this they set up a practice Boyle and Delaney Architects. He was awarded second premium in the competition for the Dublin Port and Docks Headquarters in 1954 to be built on the site opposite BusárasPaul Clerkin

KeymasterFor the record, in the absence of any revenue to underpin the costs and the effort involved, there is a strong possibility that I will be turning off Archeire in the new year.
Its been a good run, we’ve been online since May 1996 but I can no longer justify the money being spent or the time involved in the current economic climate.

KeymasterI realise they’re a standard design, jusyt wondering who did them.
