PapworthParticipant
Spot on Rory, of course it’s the goverment’s (FFs) fault that’s where the book stops. Remember those LUAS trams sitting on concrete blocks outside the Dail many years ago !!…………. coming in 2003 then after that every 10 mins !!
PapworthParticipantLooks like the LUAS is rapidly and at great speed heading towards an enquiry that will be more costly and take longer than its construction !! bring over Hutton and have it done in a month.
PapworthParticipantAaaaaaaaaa………I’m a demented Dubliner, get me out of here ( for a wee while at least)….yeah, Manchester city centre sounds great.
PapworthParticipantSeven billion…..all done and dusted in less then 10 years….get these blokes to finish the LUAS @ Carl Luas speed and build the metro so we can all reach Fingal-land.
PapworthParticipantA very neglected and historical graveyard in dire need of preservation and most certainly worth seeing is the old Goldbridge cemetary at the back of St. Michael’s Estate Inchicore. The caretaker lives just outside the old graveyard’s main gates – just knock on his door and he’ll open the gates into a very interesting and abandoned place.
PapworthParticipantAny house, all the houses on Henrietta St – just to see how it could look travel to Hillsbourough village and see a very similar row of Georgian houses fully restored in that magnificient time capsule of Georgian architecture.
PapworthParticipantThe derelict and abandoned and so historical Arsenal in the Phoenix Park. Great location, great elevation great things could be done here.
Francis Johnston’s St. George’s Church Hardwicke St. if its not too late to save its spire.
PapworthParticipantGreat write-up about “The Spire of Dublin” in last Saturday’s Telegraph (arts supplement ) basically saying Dublin’s Spire should win this years Sterling prize. Really cheered me up flying home from Malaga. I noticed in Spain that every roundabout along the Costa features a work of art, the only one I am aware of in Dublin is the one in Rialto which features two Dolphins and was financed by DCC but the idea came from local community groups when they were asked what to spend a proposed donation to the area on.
PapworthParticipantJust up the old Lucan road from the Bridge Inn in Chapelizod is a newly completed development and its on the steepest incline / elevation I have seen in sometime and I must say looks very well but I would sure hate to climb all those steps fronting the development especially after a night in the Bridge Inn !!
PapworthParticipantA great oppurtunity existed here for the market (once council property- our property) to be reinstated as a genuine city market. The outdoor market in Temple Bar just down High St. from Francis St. is too small and above all exposed. The rightfull purpose here was staring them in the face. Why can they get so little right !!
PapworthParticipantYes it really is a shame. I saw these cows positioned around central London last July and they were a great hit with locals and tourists alike. Unfortunately this is yet another reflection on the plight of Dublin city public spaces.
PapworthParticipantThe last one to be knocked down would be more like it. Look what they did to the magnificient Theatre Royal – build the bloody awful Hawkins House office block in its place.
PapworthParticipantYes I like the Burton building… but dont forget the smaller little examples in the city like Rathmines post office.
PapworthParticipantPrimetime did a recent programme on how Aer Rianta have the most extended “red zones” in world aviation which extend on to other peoples lands surrounding the airport and as par for the course they object to all planning applications within these “red zones” / Aer Rianta shadows !!. Established market gardeners cannot even build simple storage sheds… looks like their trying to give them the shove to sell !! and move on.
PapworthParticipantI really like the Science Centre – beautiful work
great for Glasgow.PapworthParticipantDon’t hold your breath with the GAA. The ‘patnership’ deal they offered Rovers on the sharing of the unfinished ground in Tallaght was that Rovers could use the shared pitch for 30 !! days of the year. Also the kids in Longford wished to hold a Samba Soccer tournament and the most suitable ground belongs to the GAA and they surprise surprise refused.
PapworthParticipantBus station getting a lick of paint at last , Patrick St. being regenerated – looks like all of Cork are getting ready for the arrival of Mr Supersaint the one and only Pat Dolan he is one great guy, I hope he leads Cork City to the promised land and that’s from a St. Pat’s supporter.
PapworthParticipantMurpho, well debated…..but leaving the Spire aside …..as we have a Blooms week ..any thoughts on a Luke Gardiner exhibition and week of walks and lectures ? …99.99% of Dubliners only have heard of Gardiner as in Street… his plans and work should be taught to every kid in school… a great and visible introduction to architecture and planning for young minds.
PapworthParticipantA notable name for the spire would be to call it after the Dubliner who planned what we know largely as Dublin city…..who’s vision has never been equaled only barbaricaly destroyed since and never will be equaled ………Luke Gardiner …as a matter of fact there should be a Luke Gardiner week every year to educate and promote the legacy of the greatest planner and developer this city ever had.
PapworthParticipant..all the EU money has gone west..TB eradication = vets, Jeanie Johnston’s millions, LUAS now heading for 2005 and 1 billion,300 Irish speaking houses = grants and the rest of us having to suffer bilingual signage and forms for so few, tribunals of all types and shapes at least the extension to the National Gallery was planned and comleted largly due to EU funding. Poor Rovers with a half completed ground sitting like an abandoned building site in Tallaght …ah its Monday ..but its so annoying to see the billions generated in such a small country which have gone down the drain and into the pockets of small vested interest groups.
