i’ll second that fin, though the problem here was building a retail park along an arterial road, they were mad, everyone said they were mad and they did it anyway and its madness. it was bad enough having quinnsworth on one side, but to build on the other side was firstly unsightly and secondly, stupid. allowing retail on that garage (ashe’s?) beside the quinnsworths was stupid too.

its also true she doesn’t have a science background but she is the hero of irish science. her athletisism has nothing to do with it.

i hope they do go ahead with putting training grounds and so on in abbotstown, gradually build up infrastructure, work towards a rail link etc, but to plonk a massive stadium there would have been stupid.

i think this is getting a bit detailed, but the m&s simply food is too small and too expensive, the samwiches are better than spar etc, but it isn’t really so different. of course i live in the east wall so i amn’t the sort of people they are hoping for anyway.

now the milanos on excise walk is super, the staff are so friendly.

the new building is much too big and the side wall is too plane, if they needed to build it should be smaller, further back into the work area and it should be stepped in some way to break up the massing.

as i remember they intend an entrance opposate marlboro street and there was discussion of this this is tricky because they need a flood gate, the bank rises near bridges, but not between bridges, so this is an issue.

the campshires are so great since those warehouses came down.

this is looking really beautifull now, from across the river you can see the fantastic interior wrought-iron work.

also, there is no soft money at the moment, almost all the money coming in has a designated purpose and that doesn’t include cleaning buildings.

i don’t think total pedestrianization is always good, while it works for busy shopping streets, it can take the life out of a place, lots of towns in the se of england give examples of this, i amn’t even sure that the trafalga sq pedestrianization has worked, it is good for the gallery, but to my mind it diminishes the square. sometimes the best thing is to have one lane of well behaved, read suffering, traffice. the rambla in barcelona is a good model here. i think college green would be fabulous with much reduced traffice, but i amn’t sure total pedestrianization would be as good, even if it were possible.

i imagine that after all the bad press, they only want to go at it once more, so they are waiting for when they are working at the wiring before the work on the other stuff.

i don’t get your point about the gaa, the gaa sports are played to a very high level and involve all the things you say: switching off the tv, supporting your local team etc.
