ParticipantI never think of myself as a crank Sue, but I do regret that these buildings will be knocked, they are fine hansome vernacular buildings and an example of how tenements were refashioned in the early part of the C20, there is nothing else around quite like them and they help add variety to the housing stock. I am suprised that they couldn’t be retained and rejuvanated and used as a mixture of student and social housing. The doorways were listed but where removed from the list, I am assuming they will be saved in some way.

ParticipantBad news:
“The Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company is to re-examine proposals for the redevelopment of the Carlisle Pier after it decided this afternoon to withdraw preferred bidder status for the pier’s redevelopment from the Urban Capital consortium.”

Participantcan we have it inside the terminal; it would be so wierd in an entertaining way!
notjim
ParticipantThe location of the new terminal seems sensible to me; what I don’t get is how are we going to get to pier d, that long curved walkway won’t take a travellator will it?
will this cut off all airside views of the original building?

Participantwhat i was wondering was, if the abbey moved to georges dock, which it shouldn’t would it be possible to save the current abbey building as a theatre venue by using the space currently used by the peacock.
notjim
ParticipantI have never been in the Peacock; if the theatre was saved as a venue and the silly portico removed, could the Peacock be cannabalized to give bar/box office/ circulation space?

ParticipantI don;t think the occupation during the rising would have actually entailed a transfer of deeds.

Participantthe amazing thing about this building is the footprint, it was a single house before! they can’t be getting much more than a unit a floor. tcd must be thrilled to have that height established so close to the innovation centre.
notjim
Participantbtw jimg – i’m guessing the reason residental is allowed a floor more is that the floor heights are the smaller, 7 stories of residental and 6 of offices are roughly the same height.

Participantso again, what needs to be done is to have huge pedestrian crossings, in other words synchronize the traffic lights so that the whole area is clear in one go so you can cross anywhere, not just at crossing points.

ParticipantFunny to see a thread where the duffy brothers seem to be getting on; i guess this was before platform11 split the family like the civil war did so many families only three generations ago.

Participantbut d_d_dallas, the point being made is that the owners, though obviously entitled to demolish the ormonde, would be unwise to do so, they will swap a special, historic and handsome hotel for a bland and generic one, the sort that can easily be built on any brownfield site. perhaps an appeal to them on this grounds would be effective, espessially with a glut in hotel rooms, new build hotel rooms, likely in the near future.

ParticipantI am sure a boardwalk isn’t intended infront of the four courts, it would spoil the affect and anyway there is lots of room for a widened footpath.
you can’t boardwalk the south quays, it would be in continual shadow and therefore dank, damp and horrible.

ParticipantI’ve just seen the trees down and its great, a huge improvement.
