NiallParticipant
After all this is done, I wouldn’t let SIAC (the main contractor’s) open a crisp bag!
NiallParticipantGood photos also in Frank McDonald’s excellent book ‘ The construction of Dublin’ of the also-rans. They were truly awful!
NiallParticipantPlease can we call a halt? Let’s stick to the architecture and not personaliities and especially not politics…
The guy who started this thread is a foreigner, what kind of an impression are we giving..?
live let live and call a draw on this one.
Happy weekend to all!
NiallParticipantany good pics/models of the new scheme?
Thanks
NiallParticipantyeah saw this about new terminal, very nice too!

At the rate things go up in this country it’ll not be ready by 2005!
NiallParticipantBloody chancers more like, still don’t know what they were up to last week.
NiallParticipantDelayed again
This is a great advert for the companies involved.
What were they all doing during the good weather last week and who’s footing the bill? This is a right circus!
NiallParticipantwhy not just make it impossible to touch it.. problem solved. It’s going to be covered in grafitti and god knows what else after pubs close……….
NiallParticipantlooks good.
I still don’t know what precautions have been taken to stop vandalism.
Does anyone know?
If it is just left there I’d give it hours before the first name appears on it……..
NiallParticipantI liked the photo of all the guys standing around doing nothing, very impressive!
NiallParticipantdarn computer playing up
NiallParticipantyeah, but we need action not talking and stalling.
We need fast-tracking and outside help with construction.
We need bold and visionary leadership, apart from Brennan and Harney, the others are useless, including ‘yes’ man Ahern.
We need action, projects finished on time and no more bloody papers, quangos, talking shops and nimbys!
AND NO MORE EXCUSES!
NiallParticipantNew update about Luas on Gabriel’s excellent website!!!
NiallParticipantThis is all turning into a bore…
Can just see it now.. Tour guide to tourists..
Yeah, got permission in 1998 by the Council… suppossed to go up for the Millennium…High Court appeal. Minister gave permission for it after reading EIS in December 2000!!!!!!!!!!!
First started construction in 2002. Finally went up in 2004!I can see them all rolling around laughing… better still a look of disbelief on their faces…
Can anything be done on time in this country? The third piece has been sitting there for 3 weeks!!!!!!! What are they doing standing around staring at it?
NiallParticipantOn a rather bizzare note if you look at the camera from the other end, i.e. O’Connnell bridge is the thing aligned properly or is the traffic Island the one out of place?
Just a thought, here is the link……
NiallParticipantI agree, stop all this navel-gazing. I thing it’s a bold move putting the spike up, to be commended. Just, a pity it took so long…….
If anything the huge waste of resources and the work practices of the public services should be examined and not a structure and development to clean up the main street of our capital city…
NiallParticipantGood idea, but lets crawl before walking, how about even road surfaces for starters, ones that are re-laid every couple of years, and some consistency and maybe even a few decent signposts, for the natives, never mind the poor ripped off tourists?
I live in hope… but more in doubt. ‘Ah sure it’ll do rightly’
NiallParticipantThis country is a bloody joke!
NiallParticipant‘Ah sure it’ll do rightly.’ Sums up this country.. always excuses, all bloddy talk, no action…
Cr*p infrastructure, corrupt politicians, p*ssed off tourists, quiet natives…. nothing gets done, nothing will.
The crazy thing is people tolerate it..
NiallParticipantThis country is leaderless. We need a chief who makes decisions and gets things done! Not a weakling….. At least Charlie got things done (whatever you may think of him).. The IFSC, Royal Hospital, IMMA, Government Buildings,GPO restoration………….
Nothing gets off the ground any more.
