yes i have knocked some things about ireland and the way we do things here but so have others. expressing opinions and feelings about the country is a good thing though. it is better than not speaking at all. that’s why we have rooms and sites like this. there really is no point in being hot tempered though. a bit of fun is ok to have.

being hot tempered is just a waste of time. let us just forget these silly things and move on. it’s old news now, very old.

as i said earlier if you were listening at all! not well at the moment so trying to catch up on the net. no harm in that. it is a free country! anyway if some of you people out there are only able to mock and slag the threads, log off, don’t even bother to reply. it’s not getting to me in the slightest. if you can’t talk with some sense i suggest you don’t bother at all. nobody is forcing you to reply or even read these threads! if you don’t like it….. hint hint.

well i think it’s ok to talk about the stadium mate. i am not sure myself what is happening there. how can people be expected to be well up on everything is my question? sometimes it’s like you have to stick to certain subjects in this chat room, it’s so sad. the stadium does fall under the category of architecture. people can be so blind at times.

    yes that is very true.

i hear that many people out there dislike the royal dublin hotel aswell. i also hear that some of the older shopping centres including the ilac and the irish life mall are disliked. i guess it is just because they are old compared to liffey valley and the jervis centre. i remember before the jervis was built. the old hospital was very visible. it look like an invitation for messers. i remember seeing doors that just opened up on to hugh drops. it looked so unsafe. it looked like it was going to collapse at any minute. anyway another building that i hear people don’t like is the ulster bank on dame street. it has ruined the look of the older/important buildings in the area. the buildings on either side of the bank do not blend in at all. any comments?

thank you. altleast some people agree with me. now getting back to the normal topics.

one thing i find odd is the port area of dublin. it is so far down and as a result i have never really seen it. looking at a map of the area the streets seem to be numbered instead of named but i could be wrong. any ideas on what is going on in this area? is it going to be improved at all? it seems to be a huge open area. i was only down at the port once so i can’t remember exactly how it looks. temple bar is a busy area but the port area is so quiet, when i say quiet i mean there are no pubs/clubs and so on. if some leisure facilities were built in this area along with some pubs and clubs it would be a great way of bringing some life in to the area. there is something quite nice about facilities/pubs/clubs close to the quays. i do think that when you head down towards the point there are some lovely spots along the quays. it just seems like all the action goes on well away from this area. it would be nice if dubliners and so on could use this area too as a place to socialise. it could be a different experience altogether. i would try it…

here we go again…. listen, i’ll say what i like, just like you all keep doing with me. what is the point in having a site like this if poeple can’t ask questions and express opinions? i thought that’s why discussion forums were invented! so whatever you say!

in relation to your comments regarding the paper… too sick at the moment, therefore i find it easier to use the laptop. it is hard to find info on the net about different projects and i do look at the news sites too. it’s just easier to ask others…

you are all wasting your time trying to win this one and would be better off sticking with trying having a normal conversation, like what i am trying to do, if you’ll only let me. it’s a free counrty. i’ll say what i like.

yes yes, that is a big problem. there are several other issues that are far more important, that i already know but as i keep saying, give me a chance, i am only new to the site. i just see from this web site that skyscrapers seem to wanted by several people out there. i was surprised at how many!

    anyway…..
anyone think terminal 2 at dublin airport is a good idea? i also hear that the new metro will serve the airport. have they started on the metro yet?

what about our international airports? i heard about a proposed separate terminal at dublin airport. i also heard about a similar plan for cork and shannon airports. it makes sense to expand the airports as the passenger numbers keep growing in to and out of ireland each year. any ideas on what is happening? the plans look good but it is so hard to tell how the buildings would really look by looking at a small model.

…i am expressing an opinion just like you and sure why not? everyone else does. i am however interested in other topics too such as the metro and the new terminal at dublin airport, blah blah blah. i understand that high-rise is not the be all and end all of everything but as i am new to this website i am curious to what others think…

very true. i would want for a safer city and so on yes but also for a modern one. it does work well in other countries. surely we can have both. it is just time for ireland to be like other countries, that’s all i am saying.

how long is the tunnel in miles though? it seems like nobody cares about the poor tunnel, ah! i remember seeing it in a film years ago. i’d be afraid to enter it though on foot. it looks so dark with no light at the end, ha ha. if it does offer a really quick link to and from two main stations it should be used to help calm busy periods right now. i’d use it as a link if it were open to public use. it looks like a great way to start the metro system off???

    hmmmmm…

plenty of buildings planned but it makes me wonder??? if all these buildings are built in the city of dublin we will have loads of tower blocks everywhere. this is a bit of a worry. i think they should keep tower blocks all in the one area. when a load of tall buildings are beside each other they look good. the city of dublin should have a low-rise area and a high-rise area. take o’connell bridge house for example, it sticks out big time. then again it could work but i think that i would prefer it if tower blocks were all built in the one area. such an area would be the docklands. i am just concerned that these too would stick out just like o’connell bridge house. however we need skyscrapers and we need them now. if i had a choice of no skyscrapers at all or skyscrapers scattered everywhere, i would choose skyscrapers scattered everywhere. it’s better than nothing at all.

nelson’s pillar was still very tall though. the tall pillar was replaced by a tall slim spike. i think it is a lovely spike and adds to the skyline. peolpe shouldn’t be so quick to knock tall, modern structures. now that the spike is up plenty of people like it. if nelson’s pillar had of been only 20 feet tall for example, then that would have been a different story altogether. i am just stating that the pillar was also tall. the pillar rose up from o’ connell street, just like the spike does now.

it’s like those chimneys in the ringsend area. how can people object to skyscrapers being built down there when the chimneys are a massive height already? i think that this is a perfect area to build very tall skyscrapers. it would also help clean up the area. it looks to dirty and industrial.

where is the information being held on the buildings you talk of? i do be on skyscrapers.com a good bit and i haven’t seen any info regarding these buildings you have mentioned. how do you know about them? if there are plans to build these buildings and they go ahead, great! it’s about time. however i heard that the plans for the 30 floor tower fell through. i know about the u2 development, tara street station and sir john rogersons quay but the others??? i hope they all go ahead. ireland needs to change.
