ParticipantAnother fine chapter Graham, another fine chapter.
They are curious little things. Do you think these particular ones were moved here when Willy O’Brien’s nest was uprooted?

Participant๐ That’s tragic!

ParticipantThe last time I was last in the NL they had these type of ads on dual carriageway-type roads leading to the main commercial districts, and the ring road dualer around the city – they actualy look alright because they’re on N11-type roads where it’s predominantly through-traffic.
I could see these on some parts of the N11, but not where the DCC wants to put them. This type of advertising is not meant for Ireland.

ParticipantWow Graham, you’re really making a feast of this one ๐ I initialy thought Wood Quay too but that would have been be too easy. It’s a good one all the same and annoys me evertime I open this thread.

ParticipantHow’s the Eircom monstrosity doing across the way? It was still empty last I checked.. what a site though. Findlater Place would be a fantastic area for a restaurant with outdoor seating. I don’t have a pic at hand, but you know the spot I’m talking about, it has a couple of mature trees growing over a wide pedestrian area.. or did I dream that?

ParticipantLove this shot.

ParticipantThanks for your webskillz Graham.

ParticipantThanks for the pics. I think it was a little silly crowding the old chimney like that. Will there be any view of it left at all?
Have Dubliners come up with a nickname for the red, throbbing poles yet? ๐

ParticipantGreat viewpoint, DJM!

ParticipantI noticed that the stone “bunker” surface on the bottom of it is absolutely manky already. Perhaps the council could install a few potted shrubs in front – it’s the least they could do.

ParticipantFair play for posting all this, Devin. It’s an absolute discrace, but I’m more angry at DCC than Spar. DCC wouldn’t give a toss if it wasn’t for people complaining about it ๐ก

ParticipantThanks for those, fjp. That 747 travel shopfront on the corner is an absolute disgrace. It’s not still there, is it? ๐ก

ParticipantI actually looked at every photo not realising it was from last Christmas. I even read my own post thinking “what a cheeky bastard, after all Graham’s hard work”.. then the penny dropped ๐ฎ
Thanks Graham ๐

I say NOOOOOOOOOO to a bigger tower. It would look far too bulky. If the bottom few floors flared out a little, that would prabably be ok. Something other than a cube beside it would be good too, maybe something like the wireframe sketch.
I agree. Anything above 4 floors is just idiotic for this area. It’s far too close to the city centre.
A nice 3 story block would be perfect for this site. Although, I think 3 sotries would be a bit overkill for the whole area.

Not that it’s exactly indicative of the typical Dublin experience (as video in any event heightens tensions), but the video below does convey just how ridiculously hostile Dublin city centre can be at times for pedestrians and cyclists. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klIqo4ft3aQ
I only just saw your post now. That’s my video ๐ All taken on my trusty Ixus 55. ๐
