ParticipantThanks for posting the photos, colm07 & Graham.

Bit of a squeez..

ParticipantYeah, maintaining the lighting on this square will be a big job, and let’s hope the DDDA will look after it well. You don’t seem to have much faith, Graham – This isn’t the DCC Lighting Department!
…some 50 of these light sticks will be scattered across the red carpet, the designers also want to program in various lighting effects.
The colorful lighting will add a theatrical experience to the space. Around the segments of the red carpet will be red LED light bands; around the base of all the planters will be green LED bands.
There will also be a series of stone block benches at the waterfront edge with linear white LED bands leaking out of the cracks where they are split.
Morlan
ParticipantOh right, thanks for the pics ake!

ParticipantNobody’s commented on that redbrick block, it destroys the whole north view of the basin. Why have a block with a 100% glass façade beside a block with 80 redbrick façade ? It looks terrible.

ParticipantEmailed the DCC twice over the past year, no response.
I wonder do the architects have anything to say about it.. I’m going to email them.

ParticipantThe whole thing is meant to be floodlit for god’s sake. When’s that going to happen?

Do you think the millenium tower looks good? Here’s a photo Morlan posted:.
That’s actually the 22 story photomontage I made. it’s not that tall in reality.

ParticipantThe Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA) has been accused of being “breathtaking in its arrogance” by assuming that its plans for the U2 tower in the docklands should take precedence over a higher tower planned by developer Liam Carroll, which already has planning permission.
That’s the first I’ve ever heard of a second tower, with PP. Anyone any more details?

ParticipantMy biggest concern is the proposed bridge across An Life. A cheapo Luas bridge will destroy the breezy view down the river from O’C bridge, and believe me, the bridge will be cheapo (see the Grand Canal bridge).
It’d be a damn shame to squander so much money on a bridge that will wreck part of the boardwalk when O’C bridge has plenty space for two tram tracks.
Morlan
ParticipantThat’s incorrect. The other tower (U2) is in the Grand Canal Dock development NOT the Point Village development. Sure, it’s not even in the North Lotts. Might be worth sending them an email.
Morlan
ParticipantI love that. But I kinda prefer the wilderness in the 2nd picture, I’m not too keen on all of it being landscaped.

What exactly is Point Village?
the web site says:Is this a ‘retail park’? As in B & Q, PC World, Land of Leather?
A new “city quarter” is what they’re calling it.

ParticipantI’m more looking forward to the revamped bridge to be honest

ParticipantHere it is at the height it should have been. The dome still way too big though.

ParticipantPoint Village
Planning Approved
Full section 25 planning permission has been received for this existing development and construction has commenced.
—It looks exactly the same as Heuston Gate! 😮

ParticipantMight be worth finding out from DCC what those trapdoors were for.
Morlan
ParticipantI don’t believe that for a second. Prime location, a first for highrise-living in Ireland – they’re bound to sell out completly.
Morlan
ParticipantThis place is looking more and more manic by the day.
