ParticipantIs there any mention of installing floodlighting to light up the whole structure (as this was in the original design)? Also, how has the sandblasting of the smooth median happened yet, if so, does it have much impact on the overall look of the area?

ParticipantAny update on this?
Have the changes made much of difference now that the schools are back?
Any word on converting the top of Grafton St. into public space?

There is a fresh call for an immediate investigation into whether or not the Dublin Port Tunnel is safe.
It follows the leaking of internal documents relating to its design in recent days.
One letter claims some of the design and construction work is unsafe and could pose a danger to workers and local residents.
Dublin North Central TD Finian Mc Grath wants Dublin City Council to come clean on the issue.
“I`ve been handed explosive information”, he says.
Deputy McGrath adds, “Serious flaws in the design have been highlighted. The words that I see in the confidential report are the construction being defective, and they also have major concerns in relation to leakage in the tunnel and talking about cracking and water proofing failing in certain areas”.
 Oh dear

Dr. Quirkey’s Emporium doesn’t have P.P. for the gold leaf.I though they already put up the gold leave stuff? Do they have to remove it now?

ParticipantWell said, mate. I’ve been living in Edinburgh for two years, and also keep a close eye on the Dublin developments but ‘planning’ is not something the Irish are good at, and so we all like to take the piss, and have a good bitch about it – it’s just the way us Irish are!
I guess we could be alot worse off in fairness – Thank god for the EU – Dublin has benifited greatly over the past ten years, we should be greatfull.
I guess what I’m I’m saying is that we (Irish) are shite at planning but brilliant at taking the piss out of it – that’s what makes these forums fun for me.

ParticipantHere’s to P11
The original Metro idea linking Steve’s Green with the Airport is a total waste of money. I’m very much in support of P11’s proposals. What about the rest of you? Do you have any objections to P11’s Interconnector??

Thanks for posting the pictures. That chimney/observation tower…how tall is it? Anyone been up there?
I’m guessing that it’s not more that 10 floors tall? That’s just from looking at the pic.

Will O’Connell Streeet follow the same fate of half heartedness.Unfortunately, yes. Once the EU stops the cash injection, we can forget about any city beautification or upkeep. Also, what has happened to Henry St. is to be expected from the council – a total lack of respect for the city.
I hate to be negative but the Council will put the absolute minimum amount of cash towards the maintenance of the street.. we’ve already seen the filthy Spire which was ignored by the council for months.
It’s gonna be alot of hard work to keep this street looking good.. think of the amount disrespectful of gum spitters and indelible-pen holders that hang ’round there.

It still leaves the question though of what to do with this fine space!Maybe shift all the Moore St traders to the Smithfield plaza? Moore St is to be totally gutted and redeveloped soon anyway.
