Attached is a revised image of the development
Revised? It’s a completely different building. I prefer the original.

So it’s not going to be in the shell of the house itself then?Exactly what is the status of the house now – has just the entrance hall been restored, and the rest left as it is?
I was there last week and from the outside the building looks completely restored – quite pleasant indeed. Inside there are two food halls and a gift shop. I’m not sure if you can access the upstairs yet. Out the back there’s an area to sit and drink herbal tea with fantastic views of the Wicklow Mnts and the gardens.
The hotel at the moment is just a massive skeletal structure – it’s hard to miss. I was quite taken aback by it’s size.

ParticipantOn the subject or men-on-horse-statues..
“There is a fountain in College Green with some ghastly statues of
angels. This stands on the spot where there was once a statue of King
Billy on a horse. It was blown up six times before being completely
destroyed by a bomb in 1946. The wreck was taken to a corporation yard
and the horses huge lead testicles were melted down and used to repair
a pipe.“๐ฎ
I read this on another site. Is there any truth in it? Either way it’s a great story!

they can all climb up the service ladders!
:d Haha, yeah I can just imagine it. “20 euro up to the top, common now, move along! move along!”
Anyway, it’s my photoshop job but not my original photo. It’s almost impossible to get a shot from this angle. The photographer must have been waiting a loooong time for the traffic to clear, and spitting venom at pedestrians too!

ParticipantI seem to remember that in the original plans for the Spire, it was to be illuminated from tip to toe. All we have now is a shitty strip of light at the top and that annoying sliver of light half way up. Anyone know of any plans to light it up completely? Maybe after Upper O’C is finished??
Anyway, how’s about this :p

ParticipantFor CAD you’ll need something with lots of RAM, maybe 1GB but 512MB at a minimum. Go for a a CPU faster than 1GHz.
Have a look at http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/notebooks?c=ie&cs=iedhs1&l=en&s=dhs
Becareful buying laptops off eBay. I’d buy one brand new to be safe.

Also on a completely different subject, the next time somebody tells you the รขโยฌ5 million Millennium Spire was a waste of money. Tell them that the Millennium Bridge in London cost รยฃ5 million and that was just to stop it wobbling. It will certainly call a halt to their gallop.
I wonder how much it would cost to straighten out the bend at the top

God no! That god awful Gasworks!!!
It’s bizzare isn’t it? That plonked right beside a bungalow ๐

ParticipantYes, where have they stuck the signs????
Morlan
ParticipantNope.. it’s neither of those he’s talking about.
The only one that springs to mind is Google Headquarters, right beside the DART station there.
Is it this one? It’s only 4 floors high on this side but the other side is twice that.Morlan

The City Hall has to get a mention too. I think it’s most beautiful at dusk, while it is still bright outside but the lights eluminate it and it’s refelection can be seen in the Lee.
City Hall at Night. There’s a touch of Gandon about that building..

ParticipantI’m glad Iceland are pulling out – one less UK brand in Ireland. Let just hope that Tesco don’t snap up all of Iceland’s stores. Grrr

ParticipantI suppose a good comparison would be Edinburgh, however, the city would have a much stricter policy on shop signage than Dublin.
The Starbucks in Edinburgh’s historical heart is reasonably unobtrusive on this prominent corner.
There’s another one on Bread Street which isn’t too bad either.
Unfortunately, I think the Starbucks in Dublin will get away with pretty much anything.. as seen with Centra. ๐ก

ParticipantGood finds there, Devin. Look at how uncluttered and clean the city looked back then ๐

ParticipantThanks Stephen, never noticed it before. Are they going to have the water pumping too?

any chance they’ll cut down those trees that obstruct the view of Trinity?
I doubt it. I’d say the trees won’t get any attention until Westmorland St is redeveloped.

There’s the ugly bugger! This is Candourity Ltd (Treasury Holdings) 32-storey plan for Barrow Street design by Reddy Associates. It’s a hideous scheme – the worst of Benidorm!
Morlan – I can’t understand that logic, are you so anxious for a ‘skyscraperish’ structure, as you put it, that you’d be willing to compromise the long-term quality of the city’s skyline???
(No offence meant either Morlan – just curious. ๐ฎ )
๐ Yeah, I wasn’t be serious. That Hong Kong tower will never be built but I hope something just as tall goes in it’s place. I’m getting extremely impatient!

ParticipantI noticed today that the island on College Green has been borded up. Any idea why?
Morlan
ParticipantWhat’s happening with 35/35a Barrow St. ?
I did a search and found two developments under the same address. I don’t know what the status is of either.
The 7 story office block is incredibly boring. The highrise is over the top and I can’t see it ever being built here. I’d have to say though, I’m so anxious for anything skyscraperish they should go ahead with it!

Does anyone have a better image that proves just how wonderful it really is?!
Here’s a slightly enhanced version.
I’m not entirely sure about this tower either. Actually it looks like Liberty Hall in disguise – all it needs is the Chineseish roof. Ah it’s not that bad really, it doesn’t scream awful to me just yet.
Wonder what they’ll do to that white floating box. I don’t like it, terribley bland. They should paint each square a different colour of the spectrum.
