ParticipantThat really puts my one to shame. Various ornaments arranged symetricaly, etc. I don’t even have matching candle sticks!
Mine is from the early 50s too. The house was a doctor’s surgery for several years so there would have been a lot of human traffic stubbing their brouges off the bottom of this thing. It’s lasted well.
We had another 50s fireplace in what would have been the waiting room but we had to rip it out, it was in a terrible state. Pitty because it was much bigger and had a lot more detailing.
Didn’t think I’d be spending a Friday evening on the internet talking about fireplaces! ๐

ParticipantAs I said before, they’re most probably just mockups.

I heard someone mention that the new Smithfield Tower is either 12 or 13 storeys in height. From looking at that link above and from looking at it in reality it seems to only have 7 storeys including the ground floor. Where is this 12/13 floors coming from?
I think it’s a sneaky way of making the building appear shorter. Reminds be of Fitzwilton House. It’s 13 floors but looks more like 5 or 6 floors. ๐

ParticipantIt’s not my work but it’s pretty easy to do with the clone tool in PS.

ParticipantCupla things I’d like to see in the next 4 years. Me with my ‘hard-on for highrise’.
The new bridge is something I’ve been quite fond of for a good while too.
I’m just not convinced by the conference centre. The renderings are terribly vague. Thumbs down from me so far.
Quite impressed by Landsdowne Road. I sense massive delays with this one though. They will need a bit of that canal and they’ll also need to knock down that victorian abode. Lots of prize snotty bastards in that area too.
The new docklands space is very interesting; a first for Ireland. I am still not entirely convinced by the main building.

ParticipantI reattached the images.
A solution to your concerns ๐

ParticipantThat won’t work hear, will it? A complete ban on the stuff is the only way, which will also never happen here.

ParticipantIt’s sounds lovely Graham but will it ever happen? I’m not sure the council will want to spend more money on the street after the rejuvination. I can’t see property owners paying for something that doesn’t benefit them either.
Many European cities put a lot of money into flood lighting for their buildings. It would be great if Dublin could do the same.

Yup, go to Holland. In Eindhoven anyway all the roadage and signage looks brand new. I’ve even seen them straightening bent sign posts!

ParticipantMy main problem with the Spire is the atrocious lighting at night time.

ParticipantIt’s a sad notion that ‘The Pole’ will be a landmark of Dublin. Says it all about our country.

ParticipantThose bricks look worn already but I’d say they’re just mock-ups.

Participant4/5 story? IFSC and docklands is 7/8 story. This is the most dense development in the docklands.
Ireland is showing it’s massive grip on the euro economy by building these massive, MASSIVE density developments.

ParticipantIt will just mean that there will be less demand for hotels closer to the city centre!

Im not awestruck with the U2 tower. Maybe if it were 100meter tall and had something more to offer than a simple twist
I think that rendering is the 100 meter version,

Incidentally my late uncle claimed that he once recived a long overdue package of his developed slides from Kodak UK accompanied by a note apologising for a mysterious and unsolved chemical fault that had swapped red colours for green. The photos included Dublin pillar boxes.
Your late uncle was a good story teller!
