being originally from maynooth, i visited there last month and was disappointed to say the least viewing the manor mills development. The scale of the development is overbearing on its surroundings and totally detracts from what used to be a distinctive skyline. I walked to school by the mills site and while people must be thankful that the ‘mill aroma’ is gone i wonder how many people are thank ful for what has come in its place. Development itself is to be welcomed – it is just the form of it that i must question…just doesnt seem to have been any consideration how the building would sit well beside the ‘old tree lined village aesthetic that maynooth once enjoyed…boasting both heritage and beauty in the castle and university environs…the manor mills is symbolic of the times we are living in – money hungry short term planning – money made manor mills and manor mills shall make money – there are no peripheral considerations anymore and the development shall offer nothing of tangible value in the long term to the local community…sure it’s handy to have an easons etc. on your doorstep but at what price?…i just dont see the sense in the actual scale of the development…and i dread to think of the traffic implications!…
