Does anyone know what is happening with the area where the old Philips service site used to be just down from Cornmarket St.? Any idea when something might be happening? Seems a pity that it’s just left there. It would make a big difference to the area if a nice development went up! 😉

Of course you’re right. Franchising is a big thing pretty much everywhere these days and of course we have some Irish franchises that have hit the States also (but maybe not with the same scale). It just so happens that many franchises originate from north America. I think franchising will become one of the drivers of our services industry as it becomes an ever more important part of our economy in Ireland and as lower end manufacturing declines.

Subway are also setting up right next to Pizza Hut in Market Square! If you ever needed convincing that Ireland is becoming Americanis(z)ed look no further…Starbucks here we come!

True but being realistic the Minister for Finance, regardless of who it is :-), should be making pretty high level decisions. Anyway I’m sure they have many other areas to handle so maybe having someone under the Minister who can get stuck into the nitty gritty details and look at the NDP from a strategic perspective may make good sense. It may well be the way forward in trying to deliver an NDP on time and in budget. That said, there is no silver bullet when it comes to delivering big, complex projects on time and in budget…

I just looked at the the link you posted and there is a pie chart giving a high level breakdown of what was to be spend on roads and public transport. Also, the annual budget for roads is in the region of 1.4 billion a year and often I’m sure if we look around we can find the costings per road project. Not perfect I know 🙂
Emmm…maybe there is a need to realign the bus lane as a result of the LUAS work. Does anyone know if its removal is permanent?
