Nice suggestion Hugh. Is there an interest amongst the local community to keep it Kevin?

Perhaps this is one for Duncan and the DIT / UCD students. I know college year is nearly over but perhaps it would make a good final year project for someone next year? Or indeed if any of the studio masters are observinbg perhaps a good group project?

I actually heard Smithfield people on the radio playing the “born and reared in Dublin” card at the weekend.

Spanish style? You mean the simple garage down the country with the stepped front wall and hipped roof behind? Or the haicenda style garages tacked o to bungalows?

Where will An Taicse get off? Praising the decision in today’s papers – “oh yes, lets have loads of low rise and build until Athlone” “oh no, you cannot build on the countryside”

Interesting watching the situation in the UK where the government has refused to bail out the FA to allow them to build Wembly. Their inital cost projections have gone through the roof as well.

They also would be in a position to hold more world class events, something that will not happen at Abbotstown.

Well the locals are still up in arms about it. I do believe taht they want the site to remain derelict.

No, I think the house is more important for being a such a daring design for its time in Ireland rather than for its architectural merit.

I remember a booklet published by somebody like the Department of the Environment in the early 1980s about insertion of modern houses into the landscape

It had hints and tips about the cluster mentality of sheds, outhouses and house of the past and how to achieve that with massing in modern houses. It also had a collection of modern designs more suitable to the irish landscape than the haicenda bungalow type.

I cannot remember the title of the booklet or the author.

Perhaps you could search at http://www.paddi.net/

St Pauls has had ugly galvanised steel gates inserted into its portico to keep the homeless out. Visually destructive. AT least please paint them black.

Connolly is a bad example, the downstairs area is cheaply finished, out of sight of staff and hard to clean. Look at Heuston, better example, concourse is always spotless.
