ParticipantNo idea, I assume that they’ll have started work on fabricating it, or will they hold off in case O’Nolan heads off to Europe with his imaginary case?
Actually second question, any idea how deep of foundations something like this requires?

ParticipantWho the hell wants to wander away down to the Grand Canal Docks… they think they have problems with tickets sales now… wait until they move away down there…
o’connell street is the nations’s main street (as the corpo likes to tell us) therefore the national theatre should be on it

ParticipantIts a pity that there wasn’t a site on O’Connell Street for it.
MG
ParticipantThis gives a much more accurate impression of size.

ParticipantI saw this last night and I agree, the city looked very well, although the guys who managed to park cars on the Curved Street are a cut above the usual Dublin drivers.
MG
ParticipantWell part of the problem is that because it in inserted into the existing streetscape, the two buildings at the top on Lord Edward Street do not address it.
Perhaps some work on the Hotel, like a new entrance on the corner etc would help.
MG
ParticipantIts very hard to assess it properly because of the lack of the surrounding buildings in the images. There are some large buildinbgs in that area, so its size shouldnt look so pronounced in reality. I have to admit, that I kinda like it.
MG
ParticipantAnyone see the footage of the building’s “demolition” — some egg on the UK company’s faces after that.
It must have been very solidly built to be still standing.
MG
ParticipantVery large holes in the rere of the building now.

Participantthe clock in the liffey was not an arts project merely a gimmick

ParticipantCan you post a photo?

ParticipantI love the seating at the downriver section, and the kiosk looks much better up close than it does from a distance. What will it look like opened out? A good coffee kisok would be wonderful there.

ParticipantI think the Irish as a people are generally visually illiterate – ours in a spoken and written culture
MG
ParticipantStudent nurses haven’t been living in it for some years now AFAIK.
The whole Vincent’s complex is wearing quite badly. Didn’t part of it get a RIAI Gold Medal in the 1950s
MG
ParticipantI would agree with the Wooden Building okay – but how about:
Connolly Station
Crawford Gallery extension
Vinegar Hill memorial
Project Arts Centre
MG
ParticipantThis is a definite step forward for the city, we need more bravery like this and less complaining from the populace who think that complaining is a form of civic pride.
MG
ParticipantThat sounds like a British Standard no for a method of construction….
MG
ParticipantAbout bloody time…..
MG
ParticipantI may be wrong on this but doesn’t the new Westminster Offices by Michael Hopkins utilise the traditional methods like chimneys etc to help cool the building?
MG
ParticipantThe lights overlooking it are awful, terribly crude… obv McGarry NiEanaigh still havent got the oilrig aesthetic of Smithfield out of their system.
