Went to see it as well on the opening night; endured the usual rounds of speeches (how much ‘politically correct’ is legal these days….), mediocre wine….But in fairness, I did find a lot of the exhibits interesting, and even beautiful. Go in and have a look around. It won’t take too long, and there are some very good entries.

I agree – the present building is not pleasant to be in, and has not endured everyday wear and tear as would be expected of a student res.
It also fails to address its context well, and could be any type of building placed anywhere in the city, in any country for that matter.

    I don’t know if I’d call it ‘masturbation’…
more like the rape of a space. It’s no wonder the public at large are so guilty of tasteless and bland interiors, when they are constantly being told that the products of the aforementioned ‘challenge’ are ‘interesting’ and ‘beautious’!!!

It could be a lot more innovative and introduce designers who would at least try and address the area given as a spatial challenge in itself.

But then the real challenge would be to find ‘Interiors Consultants’ from Woodies DIY capable of rising to the occasion…….
