Here’s another picture which better shows the length of the structure:

I took a few photos of this a while back. (Just before Wappping street was barricaded off. Didn’t know you could do that to a public street.)

Anyway – all the lovely old slates have been stripped from the building and a new roof put on. Does anyone know if the plan is to put the original slates back? I thought of the woolstore building while watching Grand Designs the other night – they featured a wonderful Scottish slate roof being restored beautifully. That prompted me to actually get the photos up on the web.

No _ think the bridge should be sitting only on the 2 pillars.
like in the artists impression which is on the site boundary

Oh oh – they should have kept the T-15c screws! they’ve made a mess of it. That’s a crap bridge.

Or maybe it’s meant to be like that. It looks like really heavy duty barriers to stop ships crashing into the new concrete piers. What is going on there????

    Shame on Damien Hughes.
That sure is one badly proportioned door.
Could be the very example of curved PVC that you were looking for though Graham

nice quote on Shopping Centers in an article I read yesterday

“faux public places designed to attract rich people and make them feel comfortable”

    The Mall Goes Undercover
It now looks like a city street.

PVC used internally is not not just the devils work aesthetically but can suffocate a building just as quickly as it’s externally mounted relatives.

Lotts what have they done exactly?

They are window sized backlit advertising frames (currently advertising O2). You’ll see them on the pillars by the tables down towards the back. No biggy compared to some of the intrusions into true public space mentioned earlier – but interesting to see that it’s assumed that people won’t care. Didn’t see the price of a pint being reduced due to the cross subsidy of the advertising!

    (sorry for going off tread)

If you want some intrusive rear lit billboard advertising while you sup a pint you should check out Searsons on baggot street – who decided that the interior of their pub would be enhaced by bringing a touch of the bus shelter to procedings.

you know one of the things that’s stops me selling my house is the fear that someone like you will buy it and destroy the original floor plan.

Did you ever consider applying to the city council to have your house added to the list of protected structures? It would be unusual I guess but not impossible. Then you could sell it with a clear consience. Interesting to see if it would affect the sale price. I’d say it’d be minimal impact.

I too would love to know the answer to this one. These signs in general have been bugging me for a long time now. Does anyone know the procedure needed to be followed or the proper route to object?

In fairness Rusty the bridge did arrive in March – It was being unloaded yesterday.
    (as mentioned on) https://archiseek.com/content/showthread.php?t=1615&page=2

Today you can see most of the peices on the big flat construction barge. Very dark grey. No photos from me I’m afraid as it was way to wet to remember to bring a camera this morning! Though I did see someone else taking pics with a fancy camera- hope they’re a member of this forum!

Great to hear you are considering the resoration route. Enjoy it, as you are fortunate to have what sounds like a good starting point.

Big metal bits being unloaded there this morning. Seems like the rounded metal pivots that sit on top of each of the concrete piers and hold the whole thing together. (makes sense if you look at the picture in the first post)

I’ll try and bring a camera tomorrow.

What was the digital hub anyway – (other than a name that is). Was there any infrastructure involved?
