ParticipantAnybody know what the story is with the horse fair?
I thought the Corpo (sorry City Council) had stopped the fair for safety reasons.
I passed through Haymarket at smithfield on the first Sunday of this month. lets just say it was obvious there had been some rather incontinent horses about earlier.
Has the conflict been resolved or is the fair proceeding illegally?LOB
ParticipantAny further progress on this
Have not been down that direction for a bitLOB
Participantagreed emf
city centre is starved of public spaces.
seems a pity that it is reserved for the employees of the department of Education.
Like most things, it probably comes down to insurance cover & threat of vandalismLOB
ParticipantFound this in a press release from Oct 2001 from the DDDA (on their site)

Sorry but looks like something produced in a hurry for a client meeting
I get a bit worried when lasers in the sky & headlights in the foreground are used-seems to be overcompensating for the building designlooks like a touching up in photoshop of an nightime shot of the existing building

Now if this were true, it would be fabulous to see but I imagine its a closed down toilet block. I think there’s a sealed off one down near the O’Connell Monument, you cann see the metal panels set into the paving.
I remember this one
I think they closed it down in the late eightiesLOB

Participant“Guidance on the Use of Tactile Paving Surfaces
Colour
The red blister surface should be used at controlled crossings only.
This will further assist partially sighted people to distinguish the presence of a controlled crossing point. It may also be of benefit to sighted pedestrians and may emphasise the presence of a crossing to vehicle drivers.
It is best to avoid using any other red material in the vicinity of a controlled crossing. Where this is unavoidable it will be necessary to provide a contrasting border around the blister surface contrasting in colour and tone. A border 150mm wide should provide sufficient contrast. Where there are conservation considerations an alternative colour for the tactile surface may be appropriate”LOB
