Would the Iveagh buildings near Christchuch on Clanbrassil Street fit this category?

    That’s a terrible pity.

I don’t find it a very beautiful building but it has genre style. The interiors as I said before are pleasant with the Terrazo [marble chip] floors. Nice windows. A piece of history. Probably a fairly good quality building too.

Why can’t it be adapted? I presume it’s replacement will be a pile of tripe as usual…

    Sad really,

    Good God!

That looks amazing. Very Byzantine. I wonder what the opening hours are?

No wonder that Chusrch is so popular for weddings. I remember in 1990 going to and from an awful job I had [Murakami Wolf Swenson Animation {?} Studio] I used to admire it. They were cleaning it with some gloopy gel stuff – splodged it all over and covered it with cling film or something for a few days. What age is the Church?

I’d like to have a look inside St. Andrews on Westland Row too, but it’s usually shut in the evenings. Apparently there’s an old Italian Sculptor buried there plus some Renaissance paintings which according to the little photocopied guide are of “no real interest”. I’ll have to see for myself.

God, I wish this had been proposed on a better site. Maybe then we’d have it.

The more I look at that model the more I think we’ve lost a new busarus. It had a similar daring, and in it’s organic looking curves I think, correct me if I’m wrong – would have been a totally new style for Ireland. I mean compare those light unexpected curves with a huge sqatty black shiny box with a point on top.

Point is though on that site – it would have been positively [dare I compliment him with bringing about a new phrase..] Stephenesque in it’s arrogant and supremacist disregard for it’s surroundings.

Could we get the Architects back for another go – someplace else?

    You are so right.

To get planning pemission in Dublin/Ireland:

    a. Use red brick
    b. Stick a stupid clock tower on it

    For extra brownie points:

    c. Use crappy looking legoey plastic windows
    d. Tacky looking polished granite or some other similarly plastic looking conglomerate.

Honestly, that pathetic Jury’s thing and the DDFH&B joke opposite Christchurch [!!] are a crime against our meagre heritage.

“So you wanna put a building beside Christchurch eh?”

“Yep, it’ll be red brick with a pointy bit and a clock tower on top – so it’ll fit right in! You’ll hardly be able to spot the difference between new and old.”

    Give me strength…

Much as I was worried about the size of that design and about the final reality’s faithfulness to the beatiful model – I’m quite sorry now that it’s gone.

My disapointment is heightened by the prospect of the corpulent black heaps that may stand in it’s place.

Woodquay? Compared these black behemoths it’ll seem like a graceful, light and air-filled palace.

Hi. Sorry, I’ve calmed down a bit.

Maybe the ‘H’ word was a bit much. But I am so incredibly Dissapointed and thoroughly Disgusted with them.

I just don’t fathom how they could destroy a piece of their own Culture. A prime symbol of their connection with the community.

I haven’t a shred of religion in me. I don’t even believe that that Church was some particularly incredible example of religious architecture. And from the basic ‘it’s dead old’ point of view; it was only built in 1865!

No, there’s more to it than that and I pity those who can’t feel it.

Well, I suppose it’s all part of the rich genetic diversity which enables a species to evolve isn’t it? The art lovers and the ‘right-sided-of-the-brained’ administrators and businessmen.

    It’s just very, very sad.

    OH JESUS CHRIST !

I’m just about ready to give up on this bloody place. I am boiling with rage.

I feel so much HATRED for the Presbyterian Church Authorities at present.

Ireland is getting WORSE I tell you.
Any beautiful architechture that goes ahead nowadays probably only does so for commercial reasons and stuff deemed of no commercial value is destroyed.

Why am I living in this place?

    $^%&£*( !!!

No I don’t know that pub. It’s probably where all the Windmill Lane crowd hang out?

    HA! HAAAA! Rory.

I heard it went a bit like this:

“Now listen here Gay, I’m a great man so I am… a great, great man.”

The Gingerman pub – is that the one with the lovely round Stained glass windows?
I passed it last week and admired it again.

What’s it like inside? I was a bit reluctant to look.

My dad uses a term for people like the O’Callaghan’s and Charlie Haughey types of this world:

    ‘The Napoleon Complex’

Meaning: “If it’s good for me, it’s good for the country”.

    Do you you mean
“Which one in existance is it?”

    OR

    “What would it be like?”

Not like that Scott Tallon Walker heap under construction in DunLaoghaire I hope.

I can’t think of anything more likely than Busarus to be honest at the risk of being monotonous.

I read that press release they sent back to me fearing that they’d win me over.

They didn’t. I still honestly can’t see why they’re doing it.

There’s acres of derelict land and land under crummy, useless buildings in dublin which should be compulsarily purchased.

Why isn’t this happening? Is the land owned by speculators who are:

    a. In/In With the bodies that run this country?

    b. Organised criminals and hence too dangerous to force to do anything?

    OR:

    d. Is this just all a collosal Feck-Up?

I’d love to get some reasonable answer.

    By the way:

One alternatine development proposed by the resident’s Commitee involved a Grant of £275.000.00 to build the sheltered housing into the grounds and hall without losing the church.
