ParticipantI see that Adam’s apartment in the movie is in fact a house in Rathmines.

ParticipantSo the GAA and Croke Park are in financial trouble?
Why not give them 300 million, take the stadium and be finished with the whole thing! And open a railway station beside it.
Jas
ParticipantIt works for me ok. Simply select an area of Dublin and zoom in.
Jas
ParticipantOverly harsh folks! Its purely the tall straight chimney thats making you both think of a crematorium.
Jas
Participantlets be honest, bertie is not doing this for the good of the country – this is self-grandisement in the style of Monsieur President Mitterand of France

ParticipantI don’t like it. I saw another image in which the window mullions are much more visible and it looked like it jhad been clad in metal work to protect the glass.
Not pretty.

ParticipantThat view shows the building at its maximum width, as the site is narrow and long. I think that the subtleties of the curves are also lost in what is a rather bland rendering.
It does seem to be quite a large building though, but I imagine that the Georges Quay dev. will pave the way for planning permission.

ParticipantWould be brilliant on the Carlton site, reusing that magnificent facade. It would also help add life to the street, theatre goers, people going to the bars in the theatre, and perhaps build one or two good restaurants in the development.

ParticipantAre Bucholz McEvoy doing the work for the glazed roof for Mary Street?

ParticipantBelfield — how true, thats exactly what it was, I wondered why it felt familiar.
Jas
ParticipantThat is their house style at this stage so I don’t believe we’ll see anything better than those buildings in IFSC2. Afterall, as far as STW are concerned, those designs have ‘acceptance’ from the planners.
Jas
ParticipantA very grandiose plan, but still one that can go horribly wrong and develope another expensive compound like the IFSC or ghetto like Temple Bar.

ParticipantUnlike Foster, I think Rogers produces far more average buildings than actual great buildings. I welcome this development but would rather see a fine public commission for architects of Rogers or Foster’s standing.

Participantexcellent news! hopefully something modern to contrast with City Hall.
Jas
ParticipantWell you could always buy Hugh Pearman’s monstrously large volume…. its a great book and not just because he posts here

Jas
ParticipantI see they are currently working on this building again. Has the problem being sorted? or is it illegal development?
Jas
ParticipantThe model is indeed in the reception of the distillary building (which has recently lost a letter from its signage). Most of that building cannot be seen as its an old granary building for the dirtsillary and runs away from the street – a beautiful conversion with a small modern building at the front (the modern extensions I am not so keen on).
Jas
ParticipantThe exhibition in the vaults is pretty interesting, but the best bit is the vaults themselves. There is a lovely circular room with a massive central column holding the vaulting.
Jas
ParticipantSS Augustine and John on Thomas Street is for my ,money, the best church building in the city, yes, even better that St George’s on Hardwicke Place.
Its magnificent spire, polychomic stone and that soaring arch over the main doors and window, spectacular.

ParticipantThere is some sort of people’s festival happening there this weekend. Passed throuygh it last night, no matter what kind of event they put in, it will still be drowned by the space.
