HighriseParticipant
I am not referring to the quality of the architecture in Canary Wharf, I am simply using this as an illustration to show how what can be done in a 10 year period, I could have used Dubai etc
HighriseParticipantWe have been harping on about this development for the best part of 10 years, in the same period London has done the below, the DDDA should be ashamed:
HighriseParticipantIt’s too small, the end with 6 to 10 rows of seats look horrendous. The Irish Rugby team pull 70000 – 80000 at every game now, New Lansdowne Road Stadium is a complete waste. The Estadio da luz in Lisbon and the Emirates stadiums referenced above are vastly superior.
HighriseParticipantThe decision by An Board Pleanála has to be broadly welcomed, common sense finally prevails, its just a pity the same choice wasn’t taken on Spencer Dock, the Sir John Rogerson Quay development etc. The docklands should have been our version of Canary Wharf, its a pity a few of the members of the DDDA don’t have the same courage as those individuals in An Board Pleanála who overturned the rejection.
HighriseParticipantDublin doesn’t have a skyline, all attempts to build highrise or semi highrise buildings are quashed at planning stage, the skyline is permanently dominated by cranes building 5 storey apartment and office blocks.

HighriseParticipantKevin Roches Design should be built without doubt, it is the most imaginative in the best location etc. Its a pity a version of his design for the entire Spencerdock is not being built instead of the boring 5 storey design currently under construction.
