True …but is your opinion based on a quick glance as you have said. Take a long look and consider all.

I agree totally. I have mentioned under various nom de plumes before it’s condition. It now lies idle and derelict, it’s portico serving as a shelter for the homeless, that has become a cesspit; it’s dooors scrawled with graffiti. Does it have to follow the same fate as St. Catherine’s in Thomas Street before it’s saved from oblivion. St. Pauls used to serve a Latin mass and it was quite a religious experience even though I am myself an athiest. It is indeed a sad loss for the city. It contains too at it’s altar wall backdrop a very fine mural.

That’s true too….but I did’nt say that it was good because it looks very current and Temple Barish. But this raises a dilemma about style does’nt it. Should it look contemporary or should it evoke historicism on O’Connell Street.

Hurray to that…….as I had said before this park is a real misconstrued temporary looking job and an infill would be greatly welcome here. Good to see some foreign involvement in the guise of D.Mackey. I’d only hope that his Spanish brother’s bridges would get off the ground too…….that being Dr.Calatrava.

After our years of architectural ignorance and neglect I’d like to state that we have now have in Ireland an ultra conservative attitude towards modern architecture and particularly height and scale……..(yet historical buildings are still vanishing before our very eyes whilst we are left with only with a facade) Spencer Dock although overly commercial did have to a degree a sense of difference and optimism. Our capital city has an extremely drab skyline if anyone has noticed….(please don’t compare Dublin to Florence). Had Spencer Dock gone ahead (it’s design could have been modified) we would have had a massive transformation in this area (Calatrava’s bridge would’nt have been put in doubt either) and it would have added immensely to a featureless and otherwise suburban sky line. We may now get in this area totally conformist bland and small insignificant shite for all to behold and forget.
