ParticipantPerhaps they should leave the crane there as a permenant feature. Those lights and street furniture are in and out of the fucking ground too often.
The Spire thing was a bit of a failure. Too much maintenance required. Well at least the Corpo are doing that I suppose. They could have neglected it like alot of other things.

ParticipantIf this tower is built, does anyone know if it will be the tallest building in Ireland? …(both North and South)
GregF
ParticipantHow the facade of this fine old building (the Ulster Bank) was ever butchered by the botchers in the first place is truly incredible.
GregF
ParticipantI bet we’ll get a Quality Bus Corridor instead…
GregF
ParticipantNo way will this hyped up pile of shite be built with this recession. Who cares now in any way, its gone on too long, a bit like U2.
GregF
ParticipantSure we all knew that the Metro was Pie in the Sky just like everything else here. It’s a wonder the port tunnel was built at all.
GregF
ParticipantAh, all of this is a load of old bollocks, the DDDA, the building proposal, U2 et all….all complete bollocks. Sure the auld bastards will be retired or dead by the time it is ever built, that ‘s if it is ever built. And sure who cares in any way now . Fuck it and the whole lot of them. The final proposal itself looked awful in any way, Very awkward looking pile of shite tarted up with lights and lasers. Looks as if the whole lotta of them were taking the piss really.
Should build 2 storey social housing on it instead, with red brick, pebble dash, tarmcadam drive ways for the beloved automobiles, some trees ( to take the harm out of it and that will be readily broken) and a ubiquitous Spar. Now that would be fucking classy and would sum up the last 15 odd years of the building boom.Sure it’s not even mentioned on Foster’s website.

ParticipantGreat that they are finally replacing that lime tree!
GregF
ParticipantAh it’s really wonderful stuff overall…..for that’s just about the level we can get here in Ireland with these schemes. This is a great tribute to the Celtic Tiger, orange tans, off-roaders, coffee bars and miles and miles of over priced houses and appartments.
(….and as has been said, if it snows they can convert the roof into a piste. Multi-purpose too!).

ParticipantThis new scheme looks cool. It should be given the go ahead. It would definitely lift the lifeless air of this part of the street. With the newly proposed massive Arnott’s scheme going ahead as well, this whole quarter will be a brilliant addition to the city. No half measures, redevelop the whole lot as planned. The roof garden concept is a great feature. If this isn’t given the green light, we will probably get another rather bland featureless scheme, after many more years of idleness.
At least if it gets the go ahead it will gives us sometheing to talk about here…. 🙂
It’s been so quite lately.GregF
ParticipantNice rendering , but the final revamped building doesn’t really amount to anything much visually. Looks like a big office meets an Aldi, very bland and suburban. The lack of symmetry too adds to it’s overall odd look.
GregF
ParticipantThis whole U2 Tower debacle is an unfunny joke, like the DDDA.
GregF
ParticipantWill be good to see this neglected area of the city redeveloped, and then there’ll be the massive Arnott’s redevelopment further up the street. More additions to the city. Any move on the Moore Street Mall debacle? It’s dragged on for to long.
GregF
ParticipantThose renderings are quite good, even though the new architecture looks somewhat bland. As BTH says, will they have the Point finished in time next year for to host the Eurovision after Dustin wins it this year ?
GregF
ParticipantThere’s a photo of a model of the new U2 tower on the free Metro paper this Friday morning. Looks good (international skyscraper style) and looks an awful lot better than those terrible gimicky renderings.

Anyone see the condition of the James Joyce Bridge. The lights have been out for the last several months and the whole thing looks neglected. It also took a couple of years to replace 2 broken glass panels. This is really bad maintenance. The Council cannot blame underfunding now, with the revenues it has from the bin tax, etc….
I see that the lights on the James Joyce bridge are fully working again. Looks good all lit up again at night.
GregF
ParticipantRegarding the Ulster Bank, Dublin’s fine old stone buildings have really suffered from the butchers and botchers that can’t leave well alone.
GregF
ParticipantI wonder will they add more along the street of the new seat slabs at the base of Father Matthew statue.

ParticipantSaw these this morning too. They look good. Very contemporary to go with the street. The one at Easons has a great walk, the way the skirt flows. Could be a distraction to the moronic drivers. Any chance of them planting another tree to replace the one that was run over before Xmas at the GPO square.
