ParticipantSo ‘off- white’ was perhaps the original colour rather than silver.

ParticipantAccording to the Irish Times property section today ‘ Two former landmark buildings are amongst properties which will become pubs. They are the former AIB at College Green, and the former AIB branch on the corner of O’Connell and Abbey Street’. No doubt there interiors will be gutted and another part of established building history lost.

ParticipantSaw this last night and it was all lit up………..did’nt look that bad either……….adding a bit of substance to a lonely bleak Dublin skyline at night.

Participant…..what a terrible trait we have…..the angry beligerant ignorant Irish ….ever inward looking…..pessimistic….drown your sorrows in drink……slag off what is not not understood…..will that aspect of our psyche ever change!
GregF
Participant….the ones with the tiles?……..Still have them intact at home…….Did’nt succomb to the neo-Georgian timber faced Argos style stuff…..and thank god I suppose…..fashion can be fickle
GregF
Participant………but compared to what was there before (Piss oozing out of the men’s Jacks…..Slatterys is’nt bad………too bad it’s not an early house anymore!
GregF
ParticipantKnightsbridge on Bachelor’s Walk is a bit tacky…..the new make-over on Slattery’s of Capel Street is not bad
GregF
ParticipantI did state that facilities should be provided for skateboarders did I not …..It’s just not to have such juvenile facilities built in more established areas of the city….parks and playgounds are the most suitable places not prime streets and squares…..It’s common sense is it not.
GregF
ParticipantThat’s good for Canberra Rob…cos as a city it has to be one of the most boring places well compared to Sydney……Canberra is the seat of administration/government and is just full of embasseys etc

ParticipantIt is in a disgraceful state …….the new Calatrava bridge will overlook this too
GregF
ParticipantI agree ……the Irish lack design culture (bar one or two beacons)…but as I always say we are new to this business of how to live and enjoy the good qualities of life(after years of poverty, stagnation, famine and servitude)and we are only beginning to enjoy the riches that money brings. Unfortunately money does’nt buy ‘good taste’ hence the proliferation of shite about us. (Poor ignorant souls….in our ‘State of Inertia’)

ParticipantYour’re right Rita……and we all feel embarrassed about the lack of good design in the Irish urban environment.

ParticipantCosgrave Bros. I think
GregF
ParticipantIt would be better however would’nt it to have a few tall structures gracing Dublin’s skyline besides two chimneys bellowing out smoke.
GregF
ParticipantIt appears that they are using cladding (wallpaper) rather than solid stone around the entrance to the bridge from the foothpath (Where the tollbooths were)….a cheap effort?
GregF
ParticipantA point about skaters…… the sculpture at Wood Quay suffered the same fate too ….it’s base all chipped and broken. Maybe an outdoor skating-drome could be built in a secluded part of the inner city….I say ‘secluded’ when you consider that they built a handball alley beside one of the city’s main courthouses in Green Street ….how naff.
GregF
ParticipantThe fountain is now definitely in transit …..the sculpted figure is gone and the blocks are numbered.

ParticipantThat sounds nice but it would lead to the banks area becoming grotty and rather dirty in appearance, sure did’nt they fence off the Central Bank because of that. Much better to preserve the Bank of Ireland rather than letting it be subjected to such.

ParticipantI saw this morning that a crane had fallen off the podium in the river and was partially immersed in the water…….it’s arm too had crashed through part of the scaffolding that surrounds the newly refurbished bridge. Could have been disasterous for the poor Ha’penny.
