ParticipantWhy not get our very good friend Dr Calatrava to remodel it ….it could be a lovely feature for the city , especially if it was all lit up at night

ParticipantDespite the recent works….the much needed makeover is really good and quite contemporary….Hueston Station itself however is very small and ‘pokey’ is’nt it …. (although it is a train station and not a pub but ever see the size of the bar). It would be good if they could finish the overall makeover, …and maybe get some decent rolling stock too…..jesus what are they doing with the mountains of EU money and all the tax revenue. That Tara Street redevelopment proposal looks a great concept….It’s interiors look airy and roomy and what a great landmark….that shiney glass looks sexy. hope they build it…..however it’s bound to meet objections.

ParticipantThat’s the ill manners and unprofessionalism of some people here in Ireland Edward….I’d just keep trying….. your bound to find a suitable firm for employment…..and when you do there will be no looking back. To have the likes of a big name like Gehry on your CV is a great recomendation.

Participant…a play on words in my dictionary…a wasteline…i.e. a missed opportunity within a time limit…
mis-interpreted by some as one who lives off the fat of the land.GregF
ParticipantSo it looks as if the B…B…Bertie Bowl will finally materialize….and horray to that, at last a National Stadium for us all to be proud of…….but with the cut backs now imposed I suppose we will get another mediocre insignificant attempt of a national public structure…..Typicallly Irish, as like the Millennium celebrations?, small and modest in scale….the only thing that remains large and grandiose is Mrs Harney and her ever expanding wasteline. We will never be a nation of great builders….mediocrity and modesty is the limit of our achievement.

ParticipantBuild it ..it’s needed and looks alright….It’s quirkiness has charm

ParticipantI think they should definitely build the new Tara Street proposal…..it would act as an anchor at this point and a gateway with Liberty Hall across the Liffey as already stated. The Loopline bridge definitely needs to be remodelled as what was once proposed; a much lighter structure is needed….not because of the views of the Custom House but so as to minimise that obtrusive visual break in the city. (I think the emphasis on the Custom House is too much…. especially when one thinks that all we are looking at is a shell of a once important building as like the Four Courts) It’s a gas to see too, that people have changed their oppinions to in favour regarding the Georges Quay development…..I am not saying it is great but I remember it was once lambasted on these forums….I prefer this to the over scaled awkwardly fitting SOM proposal that was once mooted….The stack scheme seems to fit much better on the quays despite it being ‘a regular building’ in some other countries/cities abroad. Us Irish still have to learn how scale and height operates and works in an urban and city environment…..we are so naive.

ParticipantNo U turns here…..I was more or less commenting on the interiors, space, lighting and the exhibition itself….the exterior is still debatable within a Georgian streetscape…..especially when it gets dirty and aged….the newness impact will wear off. I guess it is the spectre of the ESB offices on Fitzwilliam Street that haunts me.

Participant……Can’t wait to see the new National Gallery extension and the new Impressionist Exhibition it houses too, all the big guns are there ….Monet, Renoir, etc…..great for the city of Dublin, making us feel that bit more European.
GregF
ParticipantSaw this building at the weekend ……what a concoction……check out those bay windows too ……..definitely designed? and built by Bob the Builder.
GregF
Participant………However the processes of planning approval and actually carrying out work are just too bloody slow!
GregF
ParticipantMaybe it would be wise not to demolish it then…..or maybe if it was demolished a new and more aesthetic landmarkish studio could be built and maybe U2 could record their many forthcoming albums there…..there’s plenty of life in those old dogs yet.

ParticipantMaybe Paul you could get a snap.

ParticipantA waste disposal scheme was proposed with the construction of Ireland’s first incinerator which would reduce the chronic landfill problem and on par with the rest of our admired Europeans ….this was duely opposed by the Green Party….Ciaran Cuffe & Co.
Too add….. a National Conference Centre which would benefit Dublin city was duely opposed by the above mentioned….now it looks as if nothing will materialize….if it does it will perhaps be more mediocre than what was proposed.
Certain major and much needed road schemes proposed were opposed too by the above mentioned….again when our much admired Europeans wanted to build their autobahns and strada etc ….nothing stopped them from carving through the Alps and creating infrastructure. Abundant prudence and caution leads to in-action….hence the condition of our little island ‘State of Inertia’.[This message has been edited by GregF (edited 17 December 2001).]

ParticipantThank God it got the go ahead…hope the architects done a good job and it’s stylish and landmarkish for Dublin. I love the shiny surface!
GregF
ParticipantSee the Fine Gaelers, Noonan & Co have a more realistic and probably better idea of redeveloping Landsdowne Road…..maybe I’d go with that then instead of the Bertie Bowl, because it being in the city centre…..but a forty -five thousand capacity is far too small….sixty or more would be better in the long run.
Across the water after rebuilding Old Trafford …they were forever adding on bits to expand it.December 12, 2001 at 9:24 am in reply to: The Abbey Theatre – should it stay or should it go #717717GregF
ParticipantAh ‘Jasus’ will they forever do something with this site…………….how long do they need…..It’s a prime location…..what a fiasco!
