I’m sure it will be earthed etc……….however it would make a great spectacle if it did conduct lightening.

Gas the way Scott Tallon Walker has the monopoly down the docks with regards to designwork etc.. even Spencer Dock is to be given their special touch of boring uniform mediocrity.

……….you mean to say that it is better to have a derelict site than any sort of development………..your naivity shows.
You have implied that it is far more preferable to leave the site as it is…… derelict and an eyesore…. than have any sort of development that would bring life and money into the area.
Sounds as if your talking through your arse.

…….probably will end up being a derelict site for the next ten years or more.

……..I heard through the grapevine that an 8 storey hotel and leisure complex is now planned for the site after the planners have revised their scheme……Developed by the same people who are responsible for the Four Season’s hotel in Ballsbridge….. it will include nearly up to 1000 hotel rooms, including restaurants, casino, leisure centre, gymnasium, swimming pool, sauna etc…and a Dr. Quirkeys/Disneyland style funderland……. based on a 1916 theme.
More appropriate no doubt for the area.

Well thank god in one way or another we are going to get a much needed National Stadium…..whether it be Stadium Ireland or a revemped/rebuilt Landsdowne Road.
We will finally have something of an acceptable standard to host major sporting events….and the sport loving Bertieman (aka our Taoiseach) is there to see that it is done.
Too bad the majority of Irish people will only view it on TV when our National Rugby team is playing.

Having an auld gargle, the craic, a sing song and banter adds life, warmth and liveliness to a place………I love it and it’s what the tourists come here for …..We are known world wide for having a drink (ok and a fight too) and perhaps we will never shake that image off…….and I suppose there is some truth in the stereotype imagery that different nationalities have acquired over time….. Some nationalities are known for their sassy classy style, or their sheer arrogance, or their sporting ability, or their loving ability, or their absolute coldness, or their great work ethos, etc…etc…..ours is the demon drink and if the mud sticks….well…….well why not capitalize on it as well as creating and developing our other talents, traits and characteristics………Here’s to the pub culture as well as everything else that is marvellous about us.

‘Maintenance’ is the word and action…..we are very neglectful…look at the dirt of Henry Street too….over 2 million punts were spent on it’s revamp a couple of years ago and already it looks shoddy…I know such areas recieive a lot of traffic and activity of people….but such high profile prime areas should be constantly maintained and cared for……and the funding to do it is not a problem…the council aka corpo receives enough tax.

Maybe it will include a large video screen for replays etc…….and an electronic scoreboard too…..(and let’s hope they install a few flag masts to give the tricolour as well as the flags of the 4 provinces pride of place). A good deal of construction needs to be done over a rail line I suppose which is in the way.
And how about then they open the ground up to all sports while they are building the Bertie Bowl and redeveloping Landsdowne Road.
However they are still adhering to the original plan for Croke Park…….I remember seeing the proposed model and it was a distinct horseshoe shape with the hill 16 end a terrace.
It is magnificent….well done to all involved.

    Here’s a reply from the GAA I got……..

I reply to your letter regarding Croke Park and the Nally stand, the GAA have already applied for planning permission to replace Hill 16 and the Nally stand with a new EUR25m state of the art terrace. This will be phase 4 of the plan in the redevelopment of the Stadium and we will begin the necessary work as soon as planning restrictions allow.

    …………………..sounds good does’nt it

Maybe they will build something of substance and aesthetic quality now that the junk is to be demolished….and U2 can move into it straight away.

That’s a lovely building in Blanchardstown with it’s shiney glass facade…..I had envisaged the likes of that happening down Dublin docks ….alas it’s not the case

On reflection…….. would Roche’s original plan for Spencer Dock have been better….It was lambasted by all for being too high, too bulky, too dense, too corporate America….. maybe it was, but maybe it would have been more varied than what is planned for there now. What was needed instead they said was a more European model and that’s what we are getting now I suppose…but of course an inferior version. At least with the original plan we would have had some sort of an interesting skyline and focal point for the city……rather than a slumberland of boring monotonous uniformed design.
I had pictured then all this happening ….and we ending up with uninteresting plan for this part of the city……what a wasted opportunity.

Na ……the park is a no no, a definite waste of space….the national Conference Centre fronting the river Liffey looks far more impressive …especially when Calatrava’s bridge is constructed close by here too ……I can see it all now ……and it looks impressive.

Sad to see that nothing materialized here on the Carlton Cinema site years after the wrangling between the vying developers and finally the granting of planning permission. It sounded great what was proposed….but alas no more…………stupid bloody lying developers…..the Council was right to compularily purchase it back.

Looking at the 2 images of the Spencer Dock site on the weblink provided above…..there is an image with Roche’s National Conference Centre in place and one with it missing, having a much more user friendly park provided instead in it’s place……. What would the be the more suitable option for the locality….
I think the National Conference Centre is the more apt choice for the area and city.

That’s true….and I think another stipulation by JP was that the stadium was to be an 80,000 seater.

..let’s hope they build Roche’s much needed National Conference Centre…..better than Scott Tallon & Walker manifestations that are there now.
