Ah I was only kidding. Actually O’Connell Street looked great with all the glitteratti, papparazzi and thousands of fanatical onlooking members of the public. The shining Spire in the backgound soaring into the clear blue sky. It was equal to a night at the Oscars or the Cannes film festival as Bono, Colin Farrell, Cate Blanchett and other major stars strolled down the red carpet from their stretch limosines into the luxurious foyer of the Savoy cinema. Definitely a night for the beautiful people. Champagne anyone!

I saw that too ……the premiere looked cheap alright because of the state of the street…….no red carpet, a tawdry Savoy etc…and a few people waiting at a crooked bus stop looking on.
Very bad image for the city.

That’s true too about shop front canopies which can be a lovely decorative addition as well as being practical …..pity we don’t see them any more.

I agree regarding the refurbishment of those buildings on the corner of Henry St. and O’Connell St. They look in shite condition and would compliment the GPO if they were done up.

The cows art installation is great for the city….the cow with the wings looked surrealistically angelic.

It is amazing the way we suffer here from an extremely high vandalism rate. It is like the way a delux car when after it has been robbed is burnt out…..or a newly planted sapling tree is snapped in half. In my native locality of Ballyfermot …we had a bus shelter erected 3 times and on each occasion it was burnt down. Why is this so……Is it true then that most Irish are really ‘thick’.

What ever about this Metro plan ….don’t ye know it’s all gonna be a fiasco as everything else…..with most of the money that’s to be spent on it being pilfered or robbed by the TD’s, developers, consultants, consultant’s consultants, engineers…..etc, etc….don’t hold yer breath folks. Sure the tunnel is’nt even living up to it’s expectatons and it’s not even finished yet. It being not tall enough, stumpy like everything else…..etc…. etc
It’s a lost cause. Put the money into the hospitals so as they can do the same…..but maybe a few innocent childrens lives might be saved.

I saw the over-rated ‘cast bronze base’ and it just looked like an ordinary paving grill, that one see around a tree…. (but we lack them here too, a plonk of tar does the job). So much for the fancy talk and the original concept of having Mercury and lighting in it’s base. I saw the surface of the spire itself too and they never even cleaned it …..there is a marked contrast between the recently uncovered part and the part that has been exposed to the elements. So much for the reports of it being self cleaning and getting an odd polish now and again…..but since they can’t even polish it up for it’s opening ceremony ……well sure who cares, no one does ….fuck it all.
We deserve what we get here in Ireland….I’m sure the LUAS will be a disappointment too……sure wait till it’s vandalized as well. What a waste of money.
The out going Lord Mayor Dermot Lacey summed it all up in his naive and ignorant character when he objected to the proposal initially but on it’s opening was singing it’s praises. What an artless man of no vision like all of the TD’s and councillors that riddle our country. So much for our new Lord Mayor Royston Brady….no doubt he’ll be another dim witted artless clone.
Me…I’m off to join the masses of not giving a shite about anything either.

We are getting a half arsed plan as always …..thanks to the Green Party, Ciaran Cuffe & Co for inanely stirring all this trouble up. I really don’t care about all this any more…..The optimism and hope is gone.
Maybe we ge what we deserve.

How about St Augustine and St John’s in Thomas Street……or the one up in Westland Row; great interior, …..or the Carmelite Church that supposedly holds St Valentines remains. St Paul’s on Arran Quay too: great mural…..etc, etc…There are so many great churches in Dublin.
There are some great chuches in the suburbs too built around the 30s, 40s and 50s….but pity about the frugal minimalist modern shite that was built in suburban areas from the 70’s onwards….aka concrete featureless godless blocks. No wonder the massses lost faith.

Is’nt that ad a good one with the spire writing ‘thank you’ for the Special Olympics on the pitch of Croker……Great using two modern Irish emblems so as to lodge in the minds of the Irish public ….which can be very slow to grasp new additions to our urban landscape.

How anyone can defend the ILAC centre as a piece of good architecture is beyond reason …..it is a waste of space and ugly too. ILAC ILAC I wish.

Hoola Hoopla…..Is that a dolmen in the first image….hee hee …na it’s the water flowing off the platform as it’s raised….. I think. The second bridge looks kinda like the Millenium Bridge in London.

It’s gas to think too that they have demolished and ruined and neglected a lot more that was of far more historical importance and architectural significance.

I think the judges took less time to decide the winning entries for the replacement of the World Trade Centre.
The result of the U2 competition here better be good.
