ParticipantIs’nt Ulysses is a great odyssey of literature and has never been surpassed since….

ParticipantAye, I think we’re been duped…no doubt there will be oodles of brown envelops floating about. They probably saw how corrupt the planning laws etc are here and are trying to take advantage to make a quick buck!

ParticipantHowever would’nt it be a huge investment for the country…….despite it’s over commercial American slant. Think of all that extra revenue for the Irish economy that could be put to good use too.
If it does’nt materialize the developers said that they would seek somewhere else abroad. No doubt it would probably go to the Cech Republic or somewhere like that who are reaping great financial awards and benefits at the moment…ie tourism, jobs, etc..They already have a beautiful capital city as a building block.
It could be a great lose to the Ireland too I think, in the long run. I’d say go with it and build it. Remember the Sonas Centre which was propsed a decade ago or so for the country….which included a National Stadium. Here we are years later still without a National Stadium. Sometimes our lack of vision and immense conservatism works against us, I think.
It would be very sad to think that if it was built abroad and was a huge success it would be a great loss for us, becoming a holiday destination for us Irish.
The land there, that it’s proposed to be built on, will in any way, sooner or later, be re zoned for private housing, just like the land on which the Sonas Centre was proposed has been.GregF
ParticipantAye …looking at the images, they are quite bland are’nt they…..just regular run of the mill shite that would be found anywhere else abroad ….ie a provincial British city etc… yet we are making a big thing outta them. Jesus help us!
Please could we get some striking styling done to invigorate them to make it worth while.
It is a sad reflection on us to to see that we consider a mere 19 storey tower block as ‘spectacular’. Jesus help us again ….have these people ever been outside the country.GregF
ParticipantSource = the Irish Times commercial property supplement today.

ParticipantTerrible the way it was plonked (like a big shit I suppose) in among a Georgian period street.

ParticipantAre people who initially shot it down now warming to it.

ParticipantI’m getting used to looking at the winning entry…..however I wish that they remodel the roof and cap the building off more strikingly.
I think it does n’t look good at the mo.GregF
ParticipantAny one remember too that that reknowned and revered darling of Modern Irish Architecture Michael Scott once exhibited a building at an EXPO which looked like the shape of a shamrock when viewed from above.

ParticipantIs that ”EL ARCHITINO” ……..the prodigiouspsychoprogeny of Salvador Dali’s mentalitomortidolibido in unnatural florescent lighting!……….. Begorrah!

ParticipantHowever is’nt it good to see this long neglected area of the city getting a new lease of life. Would be good it the Garden of Remberence was given a make over too…..Despite the sculpture by Oisin Kelly and the cruciform pool etc….I think this park looks ill fitting. Maybe a new somewhat grandiose entrance to the park would be a start….

ParticipantShould all be done for Christmas….It will look brilliant
GregF
ParticipantSome really dire entries in there too…..some lost architects out there as well.
Some presentations are really horrible with overly dramatic skies with acidic sunsets or stormy clouds, sail boats, seagulls and all sorts trying to add to or camouflage the basically shite designs.GregF
ParticipantWould’nt it be nice to see some shop fronts here with canopies/awnings too, for they can be an attractive feature on a shop front. Thomas Reads on Dame Street/Parliament Street springs to mind
GregF
ParticipantThe vandalism of the new bridge is disgraceful as well as the slack maintenance……but surely the grid surface should be easily replaceable as part of the design.
GregF
ParticipantThe new paving around the GPO and Spire looks great….pity it wil be soiled with chewing gum and vomit by the riff raff when finished
GregF
ParticipantI used to detest those lights and flagpoles too along the quays……hoping that a more retro traditional style would be apt…..But not now; especially when Henry Street has been upgraded with a more contemporary style of street furniture as well as O Connell Street to follow suit (and also the upgrade of Capel Street bridge)
I think now that the lights and flagpoles are very apt and fitting…..maybe if the lights emitted more light…and colourful flags/bannners were hung from the flagpoles more often, it would be a marked improvement.GregF
