No way man…..The new cubed trees are a symbol of man’s control of nature within a civic environment as what it was from the dawn of civilization. Parterres, topiaries, manicured lawns, bedding containers etc……
If ye want natural go out into the countryside!

(Get those weeds outta yer garden too!)

Dublin should not be treated as some sort of Florence or Venice so as to prevent ‘high rise’ buildings from from being constructed ….jesus 32 storeys! Ok, listed and historic buildings and their somewhat environs should be respected, conserved and restored but the essence of this 18th Georgian city has been destroyed. It is time to move on and move with the times ….else we will be forever stuck in this limbo.

I saw them early this morning, ….looked good despite being leafless. The whole stretch of plaza in front of the GPO is nearly finished as well….looks great too.
O’Connell street will look brilliant when finished!

Peter Coyne and the DDDA are stunted in their creative development (pardon the pun)

See the Spire is alight again with a festive orange glow….aka sodium street lamp……Seems a bit dull too compared to it’s previous white light.

Here’s a few images of the Hong Stadium which is a somewhat similar design to the McAlpine Stadium.

I think it looks quite good, it’s a contrast to Croke Park too!

Just heard on the news on the radio that the delegation that met the government today presented proposals for the new stadium at Landsdowne Road.
This would involve demolishing the current kip and erecting a 50,000 seater stadium on the same site.
The new stadium would look similar to the Mcalpine Stadium in Huddersfield.
    See image attached.
Looks good to me ….Let’s see if the dithering auld silly bastards in the government will go with it.

Ye’d think too that the government would borrow at least 300 million euro, (If they cannot afford it from exchequer coffers) to go towards the redevelpment of Landsdowne Road so as we could have at least something decent built.
We don’t want half measures here either.
This money would be easily recouped over a couple of years.
(Mean arse fiscal policies of our government and kneejerk psychological reactions to when they ran the country into millions of debt years ago, and had nothing to show for it either, bar mass emigration, mass unemployment and mass itself.
At least we would have a proper stadium to show for the money and something for the future generations of Irish sport fans.

(Maybe Mary Harney could open it and do a lap of honour around the track to help lose some of that unwanted excess fat)

    I agree with Diaspora,What!
Post modernism has had its day. Just hope the new HQs have a bit of thought in their designs and surrounding landscapes that will make them unique and a focal point in their areas.

Just thinking too that the Custom House (The Dept. of the Environment will need a new logo) and the Garda HQ in the Phoenix Park will become vacant, as well as many others. Might be detrimental for historic or landmark buildings in Dublin. The Custom House eventally becoming a drug centre or a night club after years of idleness etc….
Hope that the new offices built around the country will be of a stately design too.

How about moving that whole shower too out of Leinster House and down to Connemara or the Bog of Allen.

Pity the GPO plaza was’nt paved in time for this Christmas ….the Christmas tree and crib is rather lost up near the Father Matthew statue side of the street. (What a shite end of the street too …..nothing here bar Father Matthew and the Sacred Heart statues up to Parnell. We need more statues and sculptures here….to make the street interesting. How about a statue to Wolfe Tone, etc….in a fanciful neo baroque style)
Let’s hope that next year all will be working fine and they get a celebrity gimp to turn on the Christmas lights as they do in all other major cities.
That Spire is a disappointment too …a great concept and landmark for the city etc…but very poorly executed as has been seen.
