ParticipantIt’s the kind of thing that really makes me want to hear about chewing gum getting banned. Then I fell like I’m a grumpy old man. Then I stop caring again. And then I start to think about tiny robots that kill gum spitters on sight….
All very viable solutions.

ParticipantIreland on Sunday seemed to be making a big deal out of this. I don’t trust that newspaper – it’s really just a badly written tabloid.
But their info is probably correct. The thing to remember is that they’re only talking about a single sliproad leading from churchtown road to the dundrum road into town (see below). The rest of the bridge is fine.
Can it be that hard to lower that little piece of road??? Anyone who’s seen the phenomenal work they’ve been carrying out lately wuold take this as the smallest of problems that can certainly be carried out with very little disruption (work on the bridge so far has caused very little disruption in general).
Below you’ll see a current photo of the night work on the bridge and a detail showing the corner where the road is too high.

(sorry about all the pictures – I’m having a very pictured week)(oops – image lost in a server incident – click my www link below for the photos)

ParticipantHad to remove a section of railing from the left hand side, hence the cloning marks (lazy me). And there was one slab that was a totally different colour than all the rest, so it got fixed too.
Walking around to take these shots (there were a number, and I covered a 360 of the site) I couldn’t help but feel that the buildings looked nice from nearly all angles. When you’re close up, the towers aren’t too domineering, and when you back away they nestle together to give quite a pleasant effect. As Blain said, they’re certainly better than just more of the same old same old five storey blocks.
The strangest view is with the corner of Tara Street and the Quays viewed at the same time (below). With this view the new simply outshines the old….

ParticipantHas anyone figured out how to climb the spike when it’s finished??? I’m thinking a large loop of gripping material (rubber) and really grippy shoes. Grip is the main thing….

ParticipantGreat idea,
But can anyone here ice-skate??? Or is this more of a chance to learn (and fall over a lot).

ParticipantHmmmm
The spire of St John’s Cathedral in Limerick is over 300 feet, and they personally lay claim to the title of tallest spire in Ireland.

ParticipantHi ro_G,
I’ll presume that it was you that mentioned this photo quite some time ago (was it march??). I photographed it back then, and it’s been sitting in my city “waiting” folder waiting to be joined to the rest of the city section. Here’s the nicest of the shots I took, and I’ve just corrected it for perspective distortion (my newish trick). The file size is 1272 by 864 pixels (not great). It might print well, or it might not. My camera isn’t great for printing…..
Send me a mail and I’ll get you the full size image in rgb or altered cmyk colour.

ParticipantIt’s probably local “folklore”, but there are alleged tunnels running from Deerpark in Mount Merrion to Mount Anville School. And potentially one from Mount Anville to Knocrabo (the large house across Mount Anville Road).

ParticipantPerhaps they’ll see the potential publicity of retaining “Dublin’s Smallest Bar” and leave it as a separate entity. And then when it fills up the visitors can go to the new uber-bar they open on the main corner.

ParticipantI looked at the plans.
They excited me greatly.

ParticipantI completely agree Blain….
I’m not sure exactly where they get this “fear” from, and would greatly appreciate if someone would like to explain the limitations imposed by current planning restrictions. It seems we’re doomed to having a squat village dwelling with a permanent shortage of space because people feels that building “up” will just cause massive social problems or something….
I really don’t get it.

What??? Should I be offended, or is that just a bad joke in bad taste.

Participantooooooooohhhhhh
I thought you meant the Green, as in the actual “park” as opposed to the shopping centre.
I have no real opinion on the shopping centre. If they want to do something to try and get even more business, then that’s fine by them, but the idea of making the whole thing see-through sounds like they’re jumping on the “see-through” ship (nice as it is). The flip side is that they’ll probably just have to jump on a different ship in another fifteen years.

ParticipantUm. I was there today?

ParticipantBut if you can see the walkways from the streets, then you can see the streets from the walkways. When inside the green, I’d rather not see the streets.
And can anybody really miss it?? It’s huge, tree coloured, with open gates.

ParticipantI do appreciate that people sacrificed their lives for me to vote, hell, my grandfather was one of the fighters.
But apathy is a strong disease, and the voter variation is strongest.
