I would also frown upon it, but rarely catch it. I don’t actually bother putting any copyright directly onto my images, since anyone who’s going to do this knows they’re in the wrong. I’ll know my photos if I see them, and if it was a professional usage I’d take a leaf out of Paul’s book and send them a bill. Personal usages – people hotlink them all the time for forums and things, usually without credit, but that’s the internet so that’s ok.

Only one real red handed case of passing work off as their own ever showed up. A guy took a random image I had, applied a single vector filter to it (just one), and then stuck his copyright on it. I mailed him, posted a message on his messageboard, but it’s still there. One tiny vector filter – it looked exactly the same…

I know lots of solicitors, but I’ll hang on until an advertising agency tried to get away with it. Then it should sort out my hosting fees for a year at least. But I’m not a complete bitch: I’ve let three architects use images free for jobs in the last week or two.

And I appreciate seeing the Dundrum/Sandyford shots – I’ve been tied for time lately and never get to see what’s going on in Sandyford. Looks cool…

This is an interesting little frackas, to which I’ll add more photographic evidence supporting this nice (but strangely placed) structure….

    number two
    number three

And that was a fantastic clean up job…

I’ve been gone with stupid all-night work for ages now, but here’s some snaps I managed whilst passing by last weekend.

The soon to be classic angle:

And another 11 or so shots have been added to the web directory

The Liberty Hall theatre is beautiful. I was shocked by how good its foyet looked when I was in there, and it has an amazing 60s curving staircase (that someone probably wanted to replace in the eighties).

These buildings need to be given time to firstly become out of date, and then develop into classics. That crazy Town Hall in Cork looks very serious/ugly/grim/powerful, but it’s still an impressive structure and statement of its times. It shouldn’t be refaced or renovateed (I saw plans) just because it isn’t cool in 2003. People will probably think it’s super-duper in 2030, since no-one will EVER have the balls to do anything like that again…

So now I’m saying leave the ugly buildings in place. Except for those ESB buildings, which were just uber-silly (or in the uber-wrong place).

don’t want to spoil the fun, but wouldn’t it make more sense for them to leave it on till the very end, and then have a big “look at the pretty lights” thing on the “opening” day…

    Jesus.

County Hall would certainly take down Liberty Hall in a fight. Tough looking building. Limerick’s clarion thingy looks twee by comparison, although that’s the good thing about bonkers ugly buildings – they’re rarely boring.

I’ll send GoLive on a little “find and replace” sometime soon…

Me and being wrong about buildings and stuff go waaaaaaaay back.

I might update the page, but perhaps I’ll leave my inaccuracy there to maintain a firm inter-city rivalry between the Dublin and Cork parties…

(I can’t find a photo of that cork city hall, anyone got one??)

The problem was that I got into bed at 4am (from work) and so any side of the bed seemed grossly inappropriate for exiting. But that guy could have just made his (valid) points without resorting to silly name calling. I can resort to silly name calling since I’m on the web, but I generally expect more from professional journalists. unless he’s just one of those people who like to be “controversial” (yawn).

400 million is certainly a crazy amount of money (where’s it all going??), but this guy’s attitude is appalling. Maybe somebody should tell him that being a snobby wanker actually goes both ways.

The bypass down the road from me cost far far far more than the Spike ever did, will never make a profit, and only really helps people in cars (ie, people with money). If he’s got a problem with wastes of money he should take it up with a stretch of road that simply moves you from one traffic jam to another. Picking a current news article and bitching about its cost is a lot less informed than actually sitting down and finding out where the wastes of money really are. But then that wouldn’t have suited the convenience of his article, and perhaps he would have had to do some investigative journalism that didn’t involve a Google search…

    Nice plug though…

    Yay Cheap Zoom Methods!!!!

Care to identify the steeples/chimneys in between??? And I’ve been out of date with my directory due to serious work issues at the moment. Nothings getting done except office then home (home being rare indeed).

I’d like to also encourage other zoom photographers to give us those strange distance shots…

Did you suceed??? And I have to say that from some angles I actually like it. The top’s cool, and it looks great from Liberty Hall, but just looks a bit funny from the Quays.

Still though, I’d probably bitch if they tried to take it down…

Why don’t they open these places??? Surely a restaurant/bar would bring in more income for such a building than office space. O’Connell Bridge is on my “gain entry for photographs” list once the weather picks up. That and Georges Quay…

On an interesting note, I received a mail today from the offices of Ian Ritchie Architects. They asked me to pass on their thanks to everyone on this forum, and said they found the discussions very entertaining.

And of course they mentioned that it’s not over yet:
part 1 – the form is now there
part 2 is the top lighting
part 3 is the bronze base
part 4 the mirror pattern at the bottom of the base and the lighting emanating from the below ground chamber.

I’d almost forgotton, but we really do have plenty of good stuff to come.
