ParticipantA spate of one?

ParticipantChimneys at pigeon house – they’re normally the first thing I see coming home. They make Dublin recognisable from the sea and air.

ParticipantOne of the main criticisms voiced by residents of Celebration, in a BBC documentary recently, was lack of public space for skating.

It’s a very interesting listen anyway – paper autumn leaves anyone?

ParticipantIs the scheme as a whole any good? If it was project managed properly and infrastructre put in first etc. would it be a good plan. Is the proposed finished product worth aiming for? The bit’s I’ve read about seem to be well planned and address a lot of my criticisms of much recent development. Has anyone looked into this in detail?

ParticipantWas the loop line not around that time?

ParticipantMostly ‘cos people make the public notice too small and it can’t be read, or else they let it get blown away or torn.

ParticipantI think it’s great and I love the way the footpath and cycle lane section is seperated by the construction from the traffic area. I like the way the path curves and I hope the glass bits are vandal proof.
If you were to go off-white you could match the ha’penny bridge. I like the whitye at the moment though.ew
ParticipantWhat’s the story with the illuminated signage? I heard that there was a proposal to ban it on the street, but it seems to me that that would lead to the removal of the happy ring house sign and the baileys ad. I kinda like those.

ParticipantThe height problem could be got round by sinking the stadium into ground. Coul;d be a drainage disaster but I think it’s been done elsewhere.

ParticipantAll of the reasons given for Abbotstown are based on the ecconomic argument. Site being cheaper, also cheaper to get through planning etc. I personally think the argument is flawed and does not standup when total cost is considered.
There is tons of info available explaining why there is a trend away from out of town stadia. A lot of this is based on ecconomics and if anyone has seen Stadium Australia recently you will know just how bleak a new stadium can look 99% of the time. But be that as it may, I wanted to know if anyone actually felt that the Abbotstown proposal would give the punter a better experience. Judged on this criteria Landsdown is streets ahead in my book but I wanted to know how in terms of use, a case could be made for Abbotstown. For example, in the US people have been known to throw parties in the parking lots on match day and people go there even without tickets. Or is there a unique and wonderful experience that will be provide by the architecture that could not be done on a tighter site?
On a more gloomy note – what’s stopping IRFU from developing he landsdown site as high yield apartments, pocketing the cash, and moving out to a free stadium in abottstown at taxpayers expense?

ParticipantWhy the Abbotstown preference Niall? I never understood why anyone would want the stadium out there.

ParticipantBest bit of happy news in ages! Look forward to seeing it back in place.

ParticipantI’m sure it will all work out and I still look forward to seeing the full job completed. Meanwhile I enjoy the spire as it is and mostly it is an object of beauty and wonder. Check out the sunrise and sunset and it’ll cheer you up too.
I’m taking a month off from being concerned about the ineptitude and the typicalness(?) of the delays and the shoddyness of the job half done. I’m hoping that in a month there’ll be nothing to complain about. Fingers crossed!ew
ParticipantSaw that site the other week – what’s the pumping station for and why should it be there?
ew
ParticipantI’m surprised it looks so well with the low arches. I was down there during the week and I was very impressed – a great (unfinished) job.

ParticipantGood work Graham, and it’s good to see that the building may be being looked after – but do we know yet if the house in question is legaly protected at the moment?
It annoys me that it is always so hard to get a clear answer in what should be such a simple matter. Has the conservation office called you back yet?ew
ParticipantIf they are original slate they are worth a fair bit – could it be genuine theft?
ew
ParticipantI blame the audi TT. Not only are they always silver but they are always parked in the computer mock ups of new developments to demonstrate that it is a cutting edge and aspirational bundle of shoe boxes.

ParticipantI called Louth co-co planning for you (dull day) and list is indeed in the development plan. The current plan they are working with is the 1997 plan. The section you want is entitled “Buildings and Structures to be preserved”.
Bad news is that it’s not published online. Copies available through public libraries.
