ParticipantAt least the whole business has drummed up a bit of interest!!!,
??Who is the real mystery winner??,
We’ll probably still be discussing it in 30 years time.
We’ll gaze on the twisted tower, just like we do on Liberty Hall now, lamenting what was lost!!! Sigh!!emf
ParticipantMmm! I drove out west from Galway lately and was shocked at the ribbon development out beyond Salthill and through Spiddle

ParticipantI liked his book ‘Celebrating Dublin’, whatever about the quality of the art work I thought it was a great amalgamation of everything thats been happening in Dublin over the past 10 years and also whats planned in the future.
(The interesting thing about the Malton comparisons was how little his chosen views had actually changed!!)emf
ParticipantIn what way Paul??

ParticipantThe controversy about the possibility of hordes of kids climbing over the arches of the Joyce Calatrava bridge seems to have died down. I was up there on Sunday and no sign of barbed wire or the like. Not even a coat of slippery paint ( I touched it to check!) Apparently DCC have installed one fixed camera to keep an eye on things!

ParticipantNo work started on the Royal Dublin yet!

ParticipantMmm! I was sorry to discover that Frank Lloyd Wrights ‘Falling Water’ is no longer lived in but is open as an attraction. I remember seeing images of it when I was younger and imagining how great it would be to live in a house like that.
You might say that more people have access to it now but I don’t think thousands of tourists trundling through a show house corralled by those protective rails is very inspiring!emf
ParticipantI think that I read somewhere recently that concern was expressed about the visual impact that this 19 storey tower would have when viewed from the RH and that this element of the scheme was being re-evaluated and would possibly/probably be dropped!!

ParticipantWith lots of screaming kids, dogs and piebald horses!

ParticipantLooks like no leasons have been learned!!
Does anyone know if this building is worth saving??

ParticipantI’m sure that this market was closed down ‘temporarily’ until it could be spruced. I remember an article about it at the time. It had interviews with personalities who shopped there. I particularly remember Anne Doyle saying how much she loved it. I wonder was this ‘temporary’ closure just an excuse to get rid of the traders???

ParticipantI’m sure that some special interest group will form to oppose the destruction of the existing heap of matchwood and the whole project will be stuck in a legal wrangle for years!

ParticipantAny listings for all the Cows are located??

ParticipantI think the reason they won’t demolish Hawkins House is that they might not get Planning for the same volume of office space again. I remember this was the case with Apollo House a few years ago!!

ParticipantDoes anyone have a link to a map showing an aerial view of the motorway and the Carrickmines site, they we could see if its the motorway or the interchange that is causing the problem???

ParticipantAll the people complaining on this thread about the behaviour of children must have very short memories. Every child since the dawn of time has a natural desire to climb and explore, (hence the inclusion of climbing frames in childrens playgrounds I suppose). Children (although there are a lot of adults out there too) do not readily see the dangers of their actions. Whatever about calling children, who actually inflict pain on others, gurriers etc I don’t its fair to tar a child with the same brush when they suddenly see the mother of all climbing frames suddenly appear across a river near them.
I can make the comment about childrens natural actions because I still remember climbing every tree I could find as a child and looking back on it now am surprised I wasn’t killed by some of the falls I experienced!!!
(I don’t think they should do anything with the bridge by the way!!!)emf
ParticipantThere was a report on the news last night about the special olympics team in Limerick. They showed a panoramic of the city and you could see the Tower looming in the distance. Almost mistook it for New York!!

ParticipantI went down to see the bridge yesterday evening. Someone had already managed to puke in front of one of the granite seats. There were two American tourists sitting just over from it admiring the view towards Heuston. Imagine their thoughts!!!!

Participant2005 for the Macken St bridge wouldn’t be too bad at all!!, Hopefully they learned from the James Joyce bridge experience and can keep to budget and schedule!!!
