I think they give an unrealistic view of the finished product as they are all effectively aerial shots. It may just look like an ordinary flat faced office block from the ground level!!

    From The Irish Times…..

Public to get say on plan for Carlisle Pier
    Tim O’Brien

Scale models of the four shortlisted proposals for the redevelopment of Dún Laoghaire’s Carlisle Pier are to go on public display in the port on Friday.

During the exhibition, visitors will be asked to fill in comment cards indicating their preference and the cards and other submissions will then be assessed and a recommendation made to the harbour board.

The board will also consider the recommendation of a panel of experts and a final decision on the winning project is to be made in March.

Why not all get down to the exhibition and have your say…
I dunno how much sway the publics opinion will have with the judges but I suppose there’s no use complaining afterwards if a crowd of conservatives have attended the expo and we end up with a box!!

Its dosen’t look great when viewed from the bandstand side. I’ve heard a lot of people commenting on how it stands out among the trees!

In Connolly they put in grey tiles in the main concourse. They are similar in size to ordinary kitchen tiles. The surface is uneven with many of the tile broken. They always appear to be very dirty. I only hope that they may re-lay the floor when completing the Luas works!!!!

Lets hope they don’t use the smae contractor who did the floor in Connolly station. Its terrible!. Not just for the choice of material but also the quality of workmanship. The floor in Heuston St looks great!!!

I read an interview with the owners and apperently there is a tunnel across Mary St and into some property they own at the other side. They plan on using this area for storage etc.!!! Dunno which of the building it is though!!

I’m afraid to say that the new paving which was only unveiled lately around the Spire has already been destroyed by chewing gum!!

I think it looks remarkable! As other people have mentioned I am kind of worried about how it will look a few years down the line when the concrete starts to deteriorate. There are so many concrete overhangs. I wonder will they have problems with falling masonary come 20-30 years like a few other buildings ’round the city atthe moment!!

I wonder had the placement of the bollards anything to do with protecting the Spire from a collision as they protrude further along towards the direction of oncoming traffic.

We were just talking about the acceleration in the Luas work on Harcourt St and Stephens Green. The luminous jacketed workers are like ants there at the moment. Maybe should have happened a bit sooner. At least we seem to be at the beginning of the end rather than the end of the beginning!!

The old Eircom building, called Findlater House, has a planning notice on it for re-development as separate units to include a foodcourt. Would have preferred to see it demolished and rebuilt myself but at least its better than a Bookies!!
