I was watching the RTE News several months ago and I saw an article about Limerick having 3 of the countries tallest buildings in the near future. We all know about the Clarion Hotel and Riverpoint but what will be the 3rd? Are they talking about Newton House or something else? I hope this 3rd one they are talking about is not Newton. I’d prefer somthing as tall as the other two. Then again they could be talking about 3 different buildings we haven’t even heard of yet. This article was in the news before Heuston Gate was granted planning permission. Info would be much appreciated.
As far as i’m aware of
Is the St munchins house (rather ugly office building) will be replaced when the dep of agric. move premises for the reconstruction
that will be 12 storeys.
part of the bedford row redev. will be 10 storeys
the new hotel on the ennis road will be 12 storeysother than that , I’m not to sure but , I wouldn’t be surprised if yet a bigger and better skyscraper to popp up!
areas around the old race course and dock road are waiting to be…Just a thought. it would be nice to see a residential tower on the other side of the shannon close to the bridges ๐

ParticipantNo offence….
What a waste of money…
Ppl come to Dublin and see a huge pin, ๐ฎ
Itรขโฌโขs even difficult to get a full picture of it ๐กAnyway a can of beans would look architecturally better in my view
Yours Sincerely

Participant๐ ๐ Sorry that I haven’t been around lately.
I’m really impressed with the amount of building going on in Limerick at the moment ๐
I was at the Crescent last week, and the extension is almost finished,H&M are looking for recriuts and next and pennys is moving to the new part.
Does anyone have any word on the parkway redevelopment???
As I was heading back into town, I noticed the Riverpoint tower look even more impressive when seeing it at that angle of town, I really hope to see a few other high rise proposals in the Docklands, as this works well if there is a small cluster,
The new apartments beside Pery Park, looks all right to me, I have seen worse……….
If they were a few other newish or significant buildings near it, it would blend in more. Also the Bedford row redevelopment is really moving fast! ๐ The entire block is down to rubble, and seeing the mass scale of it, also is mind blowing, considering its still a rather newish building! ๐ฎ
The pedstrianisation and enhancement of Bedford row will be finished as part of the hotel =, shops and apartments.
Can anyone tell me whatรขโฌโขs going up beside the new Bank of Scotland building, or is still part of the same building, :confused:The hotel on the O’callaghan strand should be starting soon, does anyone know much about that.
I have to say (Not from Limerick) I Find Limerick a safe city, and a lot safer than media make out, I’m quite happy browsing around the city and just admiring it…
And….
I spotted lay-bys and a boardwalk! At the abbey river near Barringtonรขโฌโขs house, it quite nice to see it ๐
news…..
The Mary I extension has gut the thumbs up , and should start very soonthere is a building on Henry street that under investment , and i can;t remember which one ๐ I’ll try update on that because it was a significant building , but i can’t remember where?

Participant๐ก so is there any future expectations for Newlands cross,
the junction is going to be crazy when the M50 is upgraded……. ๐ก

ParticipantHey there,
I must say Annacotty is one of my favoirite villages, anyone agree with me ??? its a real sucesss with the new hotel and apartements on the Mulkier River (spelling unsure)
I thought the conference centre for Athlone got refused?? Limerick would be an ideal place for a conference centre as its proximity to both Cork and Galway and Shannon airports ๐
Well, I was In Limerick recently, and I seen the Lord Edward street dev. and I have to admit isnรขโฌโขt all that bad, if there was a few other new buildings gone up there, it would blend in, but frankly, it sticks out a bit. ๐ฎ
The Georges site, is coming on well to, there even building the entire block, practically ๐
I was so amazed to see the Bedford row site, turned down, some sections is 6 storeys I believe, and the buildings is not even 20 years old, quite a big site, when this is finished it will really complete the grand henrys street, hopefully it will be an impressive building, like the new dunnes stores across the street.
The jetland centre on the Ennis Rd and is opening next month… Iรขโฌโขll get pics soon.
Dunneรขโฌโขs again is the main tenant  , along with nearlyHas anyone have any notion about the Corbally Link rd, I think its currently construction ?? near the canal and corbally rd and links the Dublin rd.

Participantsorry I haven’t been able to post some pics in the last few days , I will be able to get loads up news by the weekened , busy travelling the land,
looking forward to see some good news here , when i’m back ๐ ๐
dave123
ParticipantThanks Andrew, itรขโฌโขs a great help to upload them,
I still think the Red Cow will be congested!
On the Map, where the NB ramp coming from Naas road (Clondalkin side) heading towards M50 NB – there more than enough room to have a loop between there, for the Tallaght bound traffic to merge on to the Naas road without facing a “not necessary traffic light ” and meet the Luas Line,
Does anyone understand me, lol? ๐Its great to see the new monastery road bridge been built as part of the M50 upgrade. ๐
I mentioned before about the Newlands cross mess? Whats going to happen when the M50 upgrade is finished, it will be a Crucifixion cross. , Its already well over capacitated, and has the crown in Ireland for been the busiest junction in the land. ๐ฎ
Has anyone got the figures and facts for traffic capacity and forecasts of the Interchanges?

ParticipantThey all are like cousins to the Liberty hall and Hawkins house ! 20 / 30 years span it took to start the whle idae of high rises , yet most are still dreary and drabby. sorry, they really look boring for this day and age,
the one above looks way out of proportion, and reminds me of something in Hong Kong !
Whats going on wth architecture? these propasals are really nasty.Morlan, it grey and bland, not something i’d show to anybody in a hurry, c’mon its terrible
dave123
Participant๐ก Its bloody awful, aaaagggghhhhaa! ๐ก
Its gaudy, rigid, square, monolithic, industrial and bland, for god’s sake, DDDA say they are designing one of the best waterfronts in the world, the actions don’t prove the words
If they are going to put up a building that high, then it should dress to the nines! ๐ก
Even something like colour a bit of boldness??
The only tower I like on the entire DDDA plans is the U2twisting tower, and the tower is increased from the current proposal of 60 metres to a mere 100metres, which is good, as its a well designed and designed by a famous architects, in that case in can be as high, as it pleases
When your putting a high rise up, good or ugly it WILL BE SEEN, so I cannot understand there are making the same mistakes again, I-e Hawkins house ๐ก they look like cousins as the new one proposed – Alto vetro and the other one
dave123
ParticipantYeah, I seen the digging last week, though I only thought it was just minor works, or eircom? etc ๐ฎ ๐
I’m very surprised to see them starting it already. ๐
On the newspaper recently, said that the road was to be delayed till next year! oh well i’ll take it as it got the go-ahead ๐Oh this is exciting , the mad cow roundabout is desperate ๐ฎ , it takes nearly a half an hour to cross it at times ๐ฎ
The Red cow Interchange, unlike the M1 and N4, will not be a virtual clover leaf as seen in other countries as there is a set of traffic lights on some of the ramps and the luas crossover, southbound M50 (Tallaght direction) to Naas road outbound.
But traffic will be a lot more minimal as there are free slips taking traffic away from the intersection altogether. E.g. tallaght traffic who wish to go onto the red cow city bound will be able to loop away from the luas silts, I havenรขโฌโขt seen the maps in quite a while so Iรขโฌโขm not entirely sure of all the layout.I seen the Map of the Interchange, and some of the loops looks really tight, to be honest
Any comments

Thats where most of the buses park , ie for everyone to be reminded of how ugly the heap of s**** is ,I have always wondered ,even when i was young , thinking what the hell is on that building ! ๐ฎ
As a child , i used to think that thing on the building was 100s of windows lol ๐ , even then i thought the building was crappyIts Brown Thomas for god sake , cover it up quickl ๐ฎ y

ParticipantThanks for that Turborg ๐
It gives people a view of the forgotten history of Limerick!I’m a saddened by that picture to see it gone ! its goes to show how grand and impressive it was.
Yet we still walk that very street and there is no feel , or recollection of such ,there is still a few buildings still surviving on the street , i’ll post som tomorrow if I can, ๐
I really do hope the Arthur’s Quay is demolished or something, cus it really dos’nt fit in well to the rest of the street, ๐
looks of scale ,
terrible multi storey makes anything above eye level of the entire building dead! ๐If they could only rebuiild it and build some sort of Monumental heritage or open public space with cafe style outlets, shops, apartements overhead and a decent buildiong put up and maybe repalce the car park underground ? I think anything of the above mentioned would be better !
When the pedstrianisation of the that section of O’Connells street that is coming on shorlty , they will have to do someting with Arthur’s Quay,SC along with the Arthur’s quay park.

ParticipantThanks for the extra information, but it doesnรขโฌโขt justify why on Irelands inter urban routes, have so much road types? When only travelling at least 200 km between to Cities?
Does this make sense? The original plan was to have motorways spine from Dublin to Belfast (M1) Then Dublin to the south linking Limerick and Cork M7 (M8)
The rest would be mostly dual carriageway with some motorway standard sections such as the M3 and M4
Now most of all inter urban routes are now dual carriageway
I have looked up on the Nra also with regards to the Western spine of the country i.e. – Sligo-cork route N18/N20
Which is standard dual carriageway (not super dual carriageway) this gets so fecking ridiculous! Now most of the Cork sections of the route i.e. most of the N20 was to be dual, now the plan is two plus one scheme? ๐ฎ I know these roads are safer than standard two lane roads but, they are not able to handle traffic and beat safety of a dual lane road.
When saying all this is its still puts me in blunder, to where all the original money budget the Nra was sticking to, when now most of the roads are now way behind schedule and outdated, and just after mentioning that we are getting less of a proper 1st class road than the Nra told us in the beginning as I stated above!
Also I have noticed that The Nra still has other secret agendas, e.g. when you travel on a major artery (N7 or N8) most noticeably Tipperary and Laois parts, these sections are part of the major inter urban routes and were to have new roads etc, when one would notice that the , NRA would say that they have been delayed to get the project (lack of funds) going and then its shelved almost immediately, you will notice all the roadworkรขโฌโขs come out of now where and start doing the existing road, what a bloody waster of time,
In my mind , it tells me the NRA are holding their breath on those roads, along with many others, (just noted , I use these as prime examples because Iรขโฌโขm most familiar with these roads) that is one agenda ,Its totally inadequate. Its like using this term for easier way to understand what the NRA are taking it as : let’s
take rice out one by one out of a sauspan , while its more sensible to get the sieve!( Awacky term ) but its a pretty good example of how the NRA are acting. Is this any wonder?
Anybody see this scenario?
Why spend million on the existing N routes when at that time they are supposed to started the new route??
:confused:The NRA have a large piggy bank , and they are not using it wisely……. ๐ก

As for the pile of “poo in the Park” got a few questions about that image – where did it come from? It appears somebody was fairly creative on the auld photoshop or else it’s an entirely different project to the one that has just been completed there. The apartments that have just been built, face directly onto Carey’s Rd (overlooking the Junction with Lord Edward St.) and so the houses in the background should not be visible in the image or else would be to the right of the apartments as viewed from the park!
poo in the park – ๐ i don]www.Murrayolaire.com[/url] , there is two pics of it, there were the ones i tried to post, but as you can see you can’t see it lol ๐ oh well i try looking elsewhere ๐
