ParticipantThankfully the motorway is well underway now and there is nothing that can be done about it. Will the eco nazis leave the site now?

ParticipantIs there even a water feature in the square:confused: Or is it just full of concrete and read poles.

Well, this is the camera facing the point and as you can see the only thing that makes this image special is that there is nothing going on at all.
Bare in mind too that this is apparently supposed to be finished by 2009 – Not going to happen now.

This has become quite common practice lately hasn’t it? Interesting approach. I am sure once the U2 tower finally gets under way we could start to see dramatic changes in the area in general.
The 34 storey ‘Watchtower’ near the Point Depot is already under construction so when the lift shaft starts going up for that and thoughts of Belfast or Cork having the tallest building on the island will be consigned to the dustbin of history. What will be interesting is if this starts the ball rolling for more skyscrapers. I think once people see the U2 tower and watchtower going up they will probrably realise thsat skyscrapers can be attractive on the skyline and is one solution to endless sprawl which will be a combination of things. Highrise is certainly part of that.

You have issues thats all I will say and maybe leave it to a mod to take a look at the provocative nature of your posts.;)

ParticipantI dont know why one particular contributer is so obsessed with bringing Dublin into a thread about Cork. The two are not even comparable:confused: Comparing Cork with Cardiff or Edinburgh might be more appropriate as its a similar size.

No chip on my shoulder… I lived in Dublin long enough to know what a crap city it is… a glorified city with an awful quality of life – full of arrogant toss pots like you.
Arrogant? Me thinks your a troll. Give up the trolling – its sad…
Oh and yes you have a very big chip on your shoulder. Your in denial….

You need to lose the chip on your shoulder I think. I never mentioned Dublin for the record.

ParticipantThanks for the pics. Excellent. In the context of Cork being built on a small scale this must look very big indeed. I think its a very good project and at least there is some ambition in it. Like I say it depends on the facade though as to how it will really look. Personally id prefer to see a glass facade.

To say the “whole image” looks ridiculous is completely irrational. Farcical to say the least:p Where do you live bud – in a fucking cave? Ummm….you may have a point about the Clarion though, it does seem to be oddly placed…but apart from that it certainly is not a ridiculous building. It’s a top quality hotel! I’ve had many friends from all over Europe recommend a stay at the Clarion Hotel so I suggest you spend a few days there and you’ll see what I mean.
As for Riverpoint…well, that fits right in there on the waterfront just perfectly. It does have a nice footprint there for sure:) You can’t say that the Riverpoint building doesn’t have a commanding presence over that immediate area now can you? At least you should give credit to Michael Daly for at least having the bollocks, the ambition and the courage to build something like this in the first place! It’s different from everything else, it does stand out from every vantage point so for these reasons alone it does work! Perfect? No. Aspiring? Certainly. Purposeful? Who the hell knows? But these buildings do make a big statement i.e. raised the fucking bar for bigger and better buildings that will and are coming!
But what is the mark of a truly great building? That it blends into its surroundings? That it stands out from all the rest? What is it supposed to say to us? I believe the answer to this is something personal for all of us.
That pylon… well you can take that and stick it right in the middle of Grafton Street for all I care. Of course it stinks! Only a fucking MORON would put something like that right next to O’Connell st:mad:
Missed opportunities?:( The Riverpoint Complex should have been at least five to seven storeys taller:( the Hilton Hotel and apartment complex should have been at least five storeys taller:( and someone needs to put a fucking bomb:mad:under Dunnes Stores on Sarsfield Street so that that entire waterfront area can be properly developed. Another highrise complex here similar to Riverpoint would be ideal. That would kinda balance things out along the river.
Riverpoint looks very well……thats true but the Clarion….Im not sure maybe its the ‘scrap metal’;) beside it…..and yes the pylon looks very bad tbh. Should get rid of that ASAP.
P.S Whats with using bod on certain letters in posts on this thread:confused:

ParticipantHow is saying that is ‘impressive for a city the size of Cork’ annoying to you? Is that not true……….perhaps you would prefer me to say that the town should have 30 storey tower blocks and ten lane highways and a couple of segregated metro systems:rolleyes:

ParticipantWhat the hell is that on the ground to the right of the Clarion Hotel? Is that the city dump or something?
Anyway nothing to see here. More wasted opportunities….actually the two ‘highrise’ buildings look out of place. That pylon in the background, frankly, looks rediculous. In fact the whole image looks rediculous – God give me strength:mad:

ParticipantFor a city the size of Cork that looks quite impressive. They dont seem to be working particulaly fast on it though. It will be interesting to see what the facade looks like when its finished. If its majority glass that tends to give the illusion of extra height. Hope the facade is nice.

ParticipantThought you made a mistake;) 20m tower lol

Anyone seen the piece in todays Irish Times about the Docklands? Among the suggestions are that Howard Holdings are going to apply for 2 20m towers for their site when the planning goes in over the summer, and that they expect to be on site this time next year …
LOL! Not one but two 20m towers 😮 Amazing! Why do we in Dublin not have such asspirations to scale such great heights:rolleyes: 😉
Personally I feel 20m might be a bit overkill for cork.

At the time people were laughing at Breanans ineptitude of allowing Luas onto the roundabout in the first instance and the original plan involved the Luas being put on stilts. The RPA being so impressed with the NRA design that they decided to trump it with a uIbend shaped stilt arrangement around the vodafone building at central park. The Ballymount situation is a problem but will no doubt be releived by the third lane to keep the M50 freely flowing. Facilitating one junction use of the M50 cannot be contemplated under any circumstances. If people from Kingswood or Cookstown want to access the Naas Road they can use Ballymount and the Walkinstown roundabout. Spending an extra €]
I think your a bit confused. The 1 bn is for the entire length of M50 from the M1 to Sandyford for 4 lanes each way and enhanced junctions. The N7 interchange is not costing anywhere near 200m euro.
BTW the Luas is not segregated on the previous plan. It crosses not only the N7 median but also two slip roads!

ParticipantBTW should also add in the proposal you posted there are 4 new bridges and retention of 2. In the new proposal there are 8 new bridges and retention of 2.
