ParticipantI know… and the new design is dross but I was just pointing out that the time has passed and despite the projects shortcomings, it succeeded in getting approval. I was questioning what validity the entire process would have if we can’t abide by the approvals.
Besides – maybe from a window in Wood Qy the Ormode is a tremendous eyesore in need of removal?!?d_d_dallas
ParticipantThis project has gone through the correct planning process AND has been appealed and had that appeal examined. Is it not a little immature to start making noise now because the findings of AnBP are not to one’s liking? Personally I do not like the proposed development for this site, but I do respect that having gone through the necessary hoops this project should be allowed to proceed. Otherwise the whole system will descend into Vincent Salafia type objections.

ParticipantApproved. Design by OMS. Wont be proceeding. One of several reasons is that it’s a casualty of in the Liam Carroll – Dunloe Ewart takeover. Noel Smyth is out and so were some of his projects. In the same neighbourhood the U2 tower being revised upwards to similar height.

ParticipantWell trying to cross Dawson St at the Green end is certianly more of an adventure than before.
Regarding the extra space at Grafton St… how about a creepy sculpture of an anthropomophic hare embracing a hound? Oh wait…

ParticipantUm Georges Qy Dublin? Which is same height as Liberty Hall and both smaller than County Hall Cork???

ParticipantCo. Leitrim has no single landfill within county boundaries. It’s just all exported and is someone else’s problem. This is a microcosm of the nation in our attitudes to dealing with such issues.

Participantcan it be ugly and un-noticed at the same time?!?

ParticipantUm… isn’t the Glucksman called after Lewis Glucksman for a reason? I don’t think the €11m was borne exclusively by the University.
ps That Deane St proposal? Not too sure. Destined to become street wall paper when (if) the other proposals in the vicinty kick off.

ParticipantUm… what is this 32 storey “fact” being based on? Elsewhere the proposal is merely described as “high rise” and in some cases the tower element will rise to a whopping 30m!!! Clearly dwarfing the existing structures!!!
I am very worried that 32 storeys is the “new 60m”.d_d_dallas
ParticipantOPW 32 storey will be the tallest (by far) but project unlikely to proceed for years. Note 100m planned for point village and south docks so Eglinton (and indeed County Hall) will feature far down any list. Assuming Eglinton commences in near future it will have the crown for a while.

Participantwrt to ESB plant – I quite like it and think attempts to mask it should be resisted. It has the one downside of being an actual working power plant and therefore any expectations that the ESB will move any time soon are highly unrealistic (and against public interest).

ParticipantIt’s not going to be a Drogheda type impressive structure… think along lines of westlink.

Participantquote sjpclarke “But what are young working childless couples doing in a three bed houses with front and back gardens (they never use or concrete over)…”
This touches on a very valid point. The problems are recognised, but there is a very real perception problem with “apartment living” in this country. A drive towards greater densities can only succeed if people are willing to live in such communities. Past apartment developments in our urban areas have certainly not helped people’s perception. An overhaul of D.O.E. guidelines on minimum apartment sizes?

ParticipantI think one 60m is mooted, but generally the plan is higher than IFSC 2 but not on the “tower” front

ParticipantDevin,
from your image, yes the OCP development looks monstrous, yet the Opera House is just out of sight to the left which puts the quayside in perspective. Also there is a hideous multistory carpark just behind the OCP development which was quite visible prior to this construction. This quayside along with Patricks Qy and Merchants Qy can accommodate a slightly larger massing than the older structures provide. That said they should fit in. I disapprove of the impact of the OCP building when viewed from Academy St where it’s overbearing nature becomes quite apparent.- AuthorPosts
