ParticipantKildare bypass is superb (compare to Monasteravin stretch)
Watergrasshill bypass v.g.Cashel bypass – possibly the narrowest dualer in the country!
N4 Chapelizod is a good enough stretch – speed restrictions and too many traffic lights dent my opinion of it though.

ParticipantBut has Bewley’s “really” been saved. All that has been saved in reality is the use of premises. Bewley’s it ain’t.

ParticipantIsn’t it just off Thomas St – supposed to be the feature of the Digital Hub???

ParticipantWhere in Dublin does the possibility exist for families to live in apartments? If suitably sized well serviced schemes were available, prejudice would subside. Based on the crud that has historically been piled up, Dublin’s stock of apartments leaves little option for raising a family.

Participant“Where’s the Pepper Canister? “
On Mount St…?

ParticipantThe Ulster bank on Georges Qy (the quayside phase 1 of this project not the pyramid topped part)
Citibank IFSC
The new building on Eden Qy (laughter lounge?) at least it’s a relief to see it’s not only provincial Ireland that dross can happen to high profile locations.
The Cosgrave development on corner of Barrow St and Grand Canal St – Worst. Apartment. Scheme. Ever!d_d_dallas
ParticipantMorlan, the whole Ulster Bank on College Green is a modern building with a tiny piece of victorian facade retained.
Regarding reproduction (cough) architecture… as stated previously there is plenty of it already in Dublin. Surely it is preferable living in a city of architectural layers and eras with different generations having some mark rather than some sham and austere vision of the perceived past. A city should tell a tale. If anyone wants to live in suspended history I suggest moving to an Amish community!d_d_dallas
Participantem… SARCASM!
“Aldi-esque”
Cheap as chips and in such a prominent location. TCH acquire a magnificent premises on South Mall for their own and then inflict this! Corporate image obviously only applies in the City Centre.

ParticipantI love the corrugated steel glistening in the sun… also the curved facade in an Aldi-esque wink at the Indo’s Citiwest magnificence.

ParticipantI think Dublin has suffered enough “reproduction georgian” in sensitive areas. Spending money to make Dublin into a Disney version of Dublin would be a horrible waste of tax payers money, especially if that money was grant aid to private hands. The property market in the city centre is vibrant enough to let market forces correct the unfortunate 1960’s design mistakes.

ParticipantClichéd as in Starbucks shopping list for Europe: Ok we need a space directly under the Eifel Tower, Colosseum, etc do those MP guys in Westminster drink venti half-caf soy skinny caramel machiato frappuchinos?

ParticipantIn the case of Starbucks dominating a place – take a trip down to Baggott St where there are two Insomnias practically opposite each other. This isn’t Chicago or San Fran! I would be challenged to find a part of the city centre not graced with an OBriens. It’s totally hypocritical (and very Irish!) to get all upset over the arrival of Starbucks when infact we’ve done quite a good job creating our very own version. I’m not even going near Spar-bucks.
I have no doubt that when they open their outlet on 1 College Green it will be tastefully done from the outside and not as abrasive as it’s convenience oriented neighbour. What irritates me is the how clichéd it is: of all the places Starbucks could locate in Dublin…

ParticipantGod no! That god awful Gasworks!!!

ParticipantHmmm… I was all in favour of this objection too until I remembered there’s a bloody Centra two doors up anyway. Starbucks at least could claim to be classier than that!

ParticipantDidn’t Jarvis run into some financial troubles? So much for PPP in the education sector.

ParticipantAll I can say about the Rockfell plan is that I’m impressed (from what’s posted anyway). I hadn’t seen much on this other than the initial plans. A tremendous improvement. Hopefully it’ll materialise in the flesh well.

ParticipantMaybe so – but Bishop L Park is known as as the Peace Park …for reasons best left untouched…

Participantdave123 the odd thing is that many of these stretches (watergrasshill for example) are new designs and thus truly segregated dual carriageways of motorway standard. i.e. there is no local access. Why the classification is maintained at “N”?

ParticipantA good bit of the N25 has these overhead signs in (the Cork Urban part) – and they are much better. In Dublin all I can think of is approaching the Red Cow from Dublin and that’s a fairly recent addition. More please!
