My problem with the extension is that it’s massing tends to dominate that side of city hall – which is an ominous omen considering the approved project behind is of a much greater scale.

Here’s the extension as it appears at the moment (apologies for image quality).

And an image of the STW “designed” webworks on other side (most. boring. building. ever.)

How much of Spain/Austria etc’s planning and CPO regulations hark back to the days of dictators running the show?

Devin, I wasn’t aiming particular comment on your views (sorry of it came across), just musing the Veruca Salt comment and how it can be applied to both sides.

You know Devin the opposite could be argued too: I DON’T want a high-rise and I DON’T want it now!!!
Either way being 100% in favour or 100% against anything is hardly balanced.

Speaking of chips and shoulders… I think FMcD would also qualify. I am impressed by the article. It’s so easy to think of developers as faceless money-hungry types devoid of architectural awareness. It’s good to see a developer responding to his detractors in a robust fashion. It gives hope for future OCP projects in the Cork region (I suppose noone wishes to sh1t in their own back garden!).

I thought with the the “revision” of Roches plan for Spencer Dock he vowed to never work here again, so how does he feel having one of his designs retained and reused? Is it with his blessing?

That whole area is heading to be easily the most dreary Lucan-esque community-free and services-free part of Cork. A tatty shopping centre, hospital and endless rows of semi-d’s… let them have their 3 storey ceiling. It would take alot more to improve the area anyway. Let developers spend their money in other parts of metro-Cork and then we’ll see how attitudes change. In any case it is fair to say that for the most part there are few places in the Western Suburbs that would prove suitable for exceeding this limit (Dennehy’s Cross aside).

wow! if only sandyford, citiwest etc had more of this. love the metro addition – kinda like those ‘off the plan’ apartment brochures filled with exciting local “proposed” amenities that are never in any danger of materialising.

How it be reconciled having CCC designate Victoria Cross an area suitable for tall buildings but by desiring the preservation of the view of a building in the RPS (i.e. County Hall) effectively block tall buildings in the area!!!

This is competition of the worst kind.
There were 9 flights a day to Dublin. Soon there wil be 3. And this is good for the consumer how?

Clearly this route will be cross-subsidised and make a loss until Aer Arran move out altogether, leaving Ryanair free to charge whatever they feel like,

Shades of “Go” out of Dublin from a few years back?

Energy consumption increases year on year in this country. We don’t have the luxury of picking and choosing which power plants operate. We need them all and then some!

Leesider, as I recall they were granted a drastically scaled back version so I imagine the first party element of the appeal is to reinstate the original plan. I believe there were third party appeals too so even the scaled back version could be rejected outright.

For those interested some pics of a rarely seen view – inside Jacob’s Mill which after 40 years of dereliction is undergoing renewal and to my mind is the most emblematic development in the city.

TP – regarding redevelopment… the scale is more suited to a city centre location certainly (as opposed to a single storey!).
I would be interested to see how it looks when viewed from Liffey St with Roches peeks out next door.

What is happening with Dunnes? Is it part of the ILAC redev too? I have to admit it’s been a while since I’ve been on Henry St, but was suprised to see total site clearance on the weekend.
